Yeah my post makes me sound like a dickhead. It was just shocking as a teenager to see such a massive amount of obese people willingly stuffing their faces. Skinny people eat shit food too though.

People make their own internal risk assessments with food, the same way they do with cycling. But we could play with the risk levels a little - put a fatal dose of poison in every 100 000th Big Mac / pork pie / Ginsters. Really test their commitment to eating shite and be an interesting social experiment and hopefully kill some chubsters.

Being a little chubby is probably gonna save me. Like many people I could be slim and I could be fat. If I could eat and drink what I like and keep a low body fat % I think I would drink myself into an early grave.
Vanity - I'll thank it in the end.

Not sure about this...
I know there are some bright sparks 'on here' who are down for scientific rigor, so feel free to correct my stats thinking... but 44% <50% right?
So heavy processed meat eaters are less likely then the average to die prematurely...?Also, those who make poor diet decisions like eating excess processed meat are also more likely to make poor diet/lifestyle decisions elsewhere - hi salt/hi fat processed food, excessive drinking, smoking, less fruit and veg, less exercise etc.
There is no way you can establish a reliable causal relationship here.

The good old "correlation != causation", eh?

assume the study has two groups: 100 who eat processed meat and 100 who don't. Study says that in total 1 in 17 participants died during the 12.7 year follow up period. That's about 12 people.
I think that the study says that 7 people of the former group died in the 12.7 year follow up period, whereas 5 of the latter group died. 7/5 = 140%. obv my numbers are assumptions hence the % isn't exactly 44% -

^^ Reminds me of when I went to Disneyworld. The Too fat to walk fatties were riding around in mobility scooters keeping them more fat as they didn't have to make any effort to walk. Also the little front basket proved to be an excellent place to store Turkey legs and other treats to eat whilst driving one-handed.
This cracked me up as a child when we visited Disney World. Me and my sister (aged 6 and 8) tried to ride one (scooter, not fatties) but were swiftly told off.

"...and sorry if i came across as a right wing food facist."
More fascist than facist, but never mind... The real issue here is, that all that talk about pork pies has made me hungry.
