I was referring to the adoption of English sounding words into the language - although you have to be careful here as some simply share a root with the English version - and suggesting that had Wales not shared a border (and government) with England, the language would have developed differenly to cope with the expansion forced since the industrial age.

I noticed a lot more anglicisation in the south over the north. Really basic stuff too.

It's wonderful that the Welsh revival is successful. It's such an interesting language. The disappearance of languages all over the world is a tragedy, and anything that re-increases linguistic variety in this climate is a boon to culture.

Footlocker was set alight at 11.30pm. Someone told me that it was an electrical fault rather than arson this time, but not sure how reliable that source is. The streets were still full of smoke and fire engines at 8.45am and the tube station still closed.

No it fucking doesn't. The English attempted to obliterate Welsh culture over successive centuries. The Welsh fought back to the extent that what was once almost a dying language is now spoken widely. Can I just point out that I'm not Welshist per se...however, I did once go to The Mumbles and got very poor service in a pub where the local clientele went quiet when I ordered drinks.....
