Maxxis Refuse

  • Global economic meltdown?
Similarly was looking at a review of the B17 from a few years ago which had a price of £44.99!

  • Hipster tax.

  • Price goes up, quality goes down.
Shwalbes and panaracers for me from now on

  • They're great tyres but not £30 good. Putting a 'training' tyre in the same price bracket as handmade open tubulars is mental. Open Corsa's are only £60/pair on Ebay.

Just seen ATC is clearing the grey version for £32 a pair plus postage but they look rank.

  • I don't know if this will be of interest to any of you, but it seems that the 28c Refuse are available again.
They disappeared for years and were gone from the Maxxis site...but they popped up out of the blue on a recent stock sheet from the suppliers.
I assumed it was a mistake but they assured us they have them in stock...they are supposedly shipping a few to my folks shop today.
I personally love Refuse, and being able to get them in a 28 is good news for anyone who prefers fatter tyres.

Just thought I'd let you know!

  • Link?

  • chain reaction do them in 25 as well (for those like fat tyres and need mudguard clearance). SOLD.

  • Well...it definitely wasn't bullshit....28's are back, and I have a pair on my bike right now! :]
Mount just as easily and only weigh 15g more than the 25's.

  • I have been waiting for this moment for years. YEARS!

  • The powers of google are strong:

My powers of laziness are stronger.

  • I've heard good things about these. What do they ride like? Are they summer or winter tyres? Also what are they like for puncture protection?

I'm in the market for some new tyres and have been thinking about All Condition Armadillos or Gater Hardshells.

  • The clue on puncture protection is in the name.

I've been running a pair for a year, commuting in all weathers and they've been excellent. They grip in all conditions, seem to roll well and are very reliable, i.e. I've never had any sketchy moments with them.

    Definitely recommended.

  • All conditions on harsh finnish roads. I've ridden two sets of tyres within two summers without punctures. They seem to roll as good as michelin pro race 3 and last twice as long. Def recommended

  • The gatorskin hardshell is claimed to be 60g lighter though? (220 as opposed to 280)

Is it any better? What about the ultimo dd 235g?

All meant to have good puncture protection and grip in all weathers

I've only ever road gatorskin, gator hard-shells, vittorio rubino - rubbish standard tyres that punctured quick and were wired so heavy. Other than I've had Michelin dynamics which I struggled with as they didn't offer much grip.

  • Cheers all. I think I may give them a go.

  • Just bought a pair of 28's, I will cycle from Paris to Roubaix using these tyres if they arrive in time.

  • There's a 28c version?

    Time to ditch my 25c.

I do like the Hardshells but am willing to try the Maxxis some more. I think it all depends on the price you can get them for.

  • Thinking about making a switch to 28c on the front as mine is starting to show cuts and wear.

Cheapest place I've found them is: £28.79
    http://www.descent-gear.com/maxxis-re-fuse-black-700-28-kevlar-62a-p-19270.html

...and for that price I’m not really sure what the benefit is over a racelite hardcase or a conti Ultra GatorSkin.

    Anyone know of anywhere cheaper?

  • a) They are not made by Bontrager and b) They have grip in the wet

  • I've just bought some 28c from descent gear, they are pricey but I've been using the 25c ones for about 4 years and wouldn't use anything else tbh.

  • Yeah I know....

Also without being too fickle they will match my rear. Just a shame I've had a couple of unexpected costs crop up today :(

  • Don't think I'll be buying Maxxis Re-fuse again.

The rubber is just peeling off in chunks

  • How old is it? I've had a rear on for a fair while now that's held up great
