  • No, I got stuck in the pub the night before and forgot to go shopping. I only had water because my mate had 2 bottles. Preparation is not my strongest suit.

tut tut ! Pub the night before !

  • Cant wait for the swimming to start tomorrow !

    Also 9th August, womens 10k ........... Come on Keri-Anne !

  • Just got tickets to some paralympics swimming heats in September (plus some athletic finals)

    Cant wait !!!!!!

  • Does anyone have any experience of Swiss Cottage pool?
How busy is it in the mornings, is it clean? Anywhere safe to lock bikes etc?

  • Mike,

Good news: It's a really nice modern pool with plenty of bike parking and a nice cafe too.

Not so good news: I don't know about mornings but at weekends and evenings the half-dozen or so times I tried it I found it very crowded. Facilities are generally clean and modern but I found the water was always very murky which is a big mark against for me. It also seems to be kept at a bafflingly high temperature. Like soup.

Could have just about forgiven all that though but the thing that really put me off was ultra narrow lanes with barely enough space to pass one swimmer in the opposite direction let alone overtake. With that set up and a good handful of swimmers hacking away in the "fast" lane I couldn't ever get more than one length of lazy freestyle in without having to stop and wait or double back and chance a dodgy mid length overtake. So from that point of view, just totally hopeless.

Last time I was there was a couple of years ago though so things may well have changed since then. I really hope so because it's a fundamentally great facility and all the issues I had with it are easily rectifiable.

They have their own masters club there too.

  • Hey Dooks, where u been ?

  • I ordered some goggles yesterday, £5.99, just to take on the hols next week, they turned up today and seem to be a great fit, very comfortable, look pretty good and are in a proper hard case ! Bargain ! If you are interested ;

Very good prices on this site generally. Good service too.

  • Is it me or have all the swimmers come out of the woodwork since the Olympics started !
Pool was full at lunchtime. So frustrating. I seem to be getting slower too, or everyone else is getting faster. I feel like I'm working so hard all the time, and going no where fast !
    Need a change.

BTW, those goggles are got are really comfy and clear but for some reason under water looking forward i feel like im going boss-eyed ? I had to swap to my tyr's after 8 laps, couldnt see the wall to tumble.

#rant and every fucker seemed to keep drafting off me or hogging the wall in the shallow end so i couldnt tumble# Grrrrrr

  • 2 words.

    Charlton Lido.

    M.T.Pool.

  • If they're hogging the wall, tumble just in front of them, and plant next to them / against them.

I do, but it's not very good etiquette.

    Bit far from me.

Good etiquette has already been breached by standing against the wall, and not up the lane rope.

Plant, plant firm, and aim for crotch.

Dont give me ideas. I already shouted ' Hurry up ' to one of the regular guys there. I can be a tad bossy.

  • Pink jammers that the 'limpics boys are wearing.

    Where from?

I ask them once to move. next time I tumble turn, if they are still there, I hit the wall so close they know next time they will cop it. They always move, even the big scary fast guys. (who are the worst offenders)

  • TW2- do you swim in a wetsuit in a "train in what you race in" fashion, or your My Little Pony swimsuit?

  • My Little Pony jammers for pool training, wetsuit for openwater.

Wetsuit & pool would be horrible.

  • Pink jammers that the 'limpics boys are wearing.

    Where from?

    Serbia

  • The jammers, I meant - not the boys.

  • Whole reason I joined Brockwell Lido gym 2 years ago was their pool- which you can wear a wetsuit in.

Reckon that would be nasty, or are you referring to indoor, heated pools?

  • Heated pools. Is Brockwell not heated?

  • I don't know- see plenty of people in wetsuits in there, and had always assumed not, but it might be

  • The jammers, I meant - not the boys.

I know. Have been trying to find them online, cos they're amazing, but no joy.

Think Brockwell is heated, but not to an extreme level, it was about 20 degrees last time I was there a month ago. Everyone else was in a wetsuit, but that's because everyone's a triathlete these days.
