everyone's a triathlete these days.
It's depraved.Tooting Bec lido, on the other hand, is brass monkeys (for us normal folk, that is), and I would swim with a wetty on there.

I know there's no definite answer to this, but what roughly is a good time to do 1500m of crawl in a 25m pool (i.e., 60 lengths)? As some sort of comparison, you could say that doing a century on a bike at around 18mph is good.
I've started swimming more recently and am trying to improve my technique. I'm really fit on a bike, but I don't seem to be able to swim particularly fast at the moment and would like to have something to aim for.
I've watched a few short technique videos and am trying to put them into practice. To add to those, does anyone have any real generic crawl tips that may help?
Swimsmooth.com gives good guidance.(It's all swimsmooth or total immersion these days.)
Catch-up drills and finger drag drills are good for technique.
A good benchmark for anything I do it to take the world record and double it - So 29 minutes for 1,500m,

26 minutes 35 seconds is usually the accepted benchmark against an 18mph century.

TW2- more advice if you would be so kind.
Wetsuits- did you go somewhere in London to try one on?
I've had a look at the sizing guide for one, and my height says "Large" whilst my weight says "small" on their chart...

You can try mine for size.
Ocean Leisure is a good place to try them on too.
A lot of lakes (Leybourne / Heron) allow you to rent / borrow.

That's a lovely offer- but aren't you grossly fat?
77kg for me on the scales this morning- similar?
-

Sigma Sport in Richmond is a good place to try, and they have a great range - you need the best to get you to 26.35.
I also got an email from them yesterday saying they have 25% off all their wetsuits. Do they send that to everyone who just dropped £400 in there, just to piss them off?

What sort of price gets you something respectable- not shite, but not brilliant.
Mid table respectability, basically?

Cuppel hunner dorrah.

Ok.
Triathlon is expensive- I can see why it is the mid-life crisis sport of choice.
200 notes on a wetsuit, whatever on a TT bike (although if the course is flat I might use my fixed, which is set up for TTing), I'm assuming some sort of sleeveless undergarment/short combo also?

I don't do scales.I'm probably a husky 80kg though.

100 notes on a wetsuit will see you good.
No fixed allowed in tri - s/s only, with 2 brakes.

Ah, fucksticks- new bike ahoy!

I'm probably about 73kg, skinny and just under 6 foot, and am happy to give away my old wetsuit. It does have a couple of holes (esp a tear in the leg, still usable, but I'd chop it near the top of the calf). PM me if you want it. It's an entry level BlueSeventy, was about £180 new. Didn't use it much apart from racing.
I'm doing my first fixed IM in a few weeks - just bring the bike in s/s, then flip the hub in transition.

That'd be cracking- as long as I can force my wobbly bits in.
PMing you now.

But a new cog means having to build a brand new bike around it. -

ok thanks. i'm even worse than i thought then! did 1500m in the london fields lido in c.35mins today. i can't tumble turn or anything which certainly doesn't help, but i'm pretty sure my basic techinique is totally turd. will get on the tuition videos and see if they improve things.

I'm keen to get into the pool, but have 4 stitches in my foot- should I wait for these to be removed, or will it be fine?
-

Heated pools. Is Brockwell not heated?
No Brockwell is not heated. It's a cold water lido.

Thanks for that ! Just eating my lunch. Do you wax your toes ? Are they hairless ?
Shouldnt you ask the docter/nurse if you should swim or not ? Personally I would cover it up with that proper clear pro plaster stuff and swim, but thats me .

Getting hold of my Doctor on the telephone is impossible- this is not an exageration, it is literally an impossible thing to do.
-
• #1298
I dont think you should get them soaked for a good 36-72 hours ? After that should be okay. When were the stitches put in ?

@Jim1985;
I think Tiswas went to some tri swim coaching sessions. Cant remember what it was called.. Red top or Red something..... it should be on this thread a few pages back.
