So gagging to swim i wrote my set out yesterday afternoon............... roll on 8pm.
500 free ( did 550)
300 back (did 350)css training - 10 x 100m free on 1.35 (prob more like 1.39) recovery 10 secs( more like 1.40)
5 x 200 IM * ( * ha ha, gsoh !) ( did 6 x, enjoyed it alot)
500 pull on 8.10300 back/easy
5 x 50 kicks ( more like 2 x)
swimdown ( breast etc)
4k ( more like 4.3k )My speed was atrocious and i think 800 warm up isnt enough for me, need 1300-1500.
Enjoyed the IM, find the css hard because of other lane swimmers.... anyway those sets definitely make the time go quicker. -

Charlton Lido yesterday evening.
All fc
4 x 100 warmup
500 drills (single arms, breathing, snorkel stuff)
8 x 200 css main set
300 warm down3000 in all
I overestimated my CSS time for 100m - I thought it was 1:50 ish, turns out I can only knock out 2:00 / 2:05
As I tire, it looks as though my stroke suffers, getting shorter, choppier and less efficient, so the harder I try, the worse I get.
I could really feel the weakness at the end of each pull though, and struggled to complete the stroke with any strength.
I do like that pool though. A whole lane to myself for 70 minutes was blissful.

I can just about do 1 x 100 @ 1:20, if it's a 25m pool.
Any more than that, and you're having a laugh.

Yep, real name was suggesting that it would be cheaper to fill a pool with treacle than water. Or maybe a treacle like substance?

So having identified a hole in my stroke last week, the last few sessions have been spent trying to rectify it.
I've been initiating my catch too early, almost as soon as my trailing arm come out of the water, and ending up snatching my strokes, and yawing as opposed to rolling.
After way too many catch up drills, I'm now starting my catch when my other arm is at the top of the recovery stroke.
End result - longer and more efficient strokes, and I feel more powerful. A few more tens of thousands of repetitions and I might have this dialled in.
Anyway - 8k last week, and my shoulders are knackered.

Did my first 6 hr swim in the Channel yesterday. OK, closer to 5 hrs if you take out the puke stops (nothing serious, just an excuse to be lazy and get out for a breather as much as anything). Glorious day, perfect swimming conditions, good company.
Most surprised, shoulders and arms feel fine today, though I wouldn't take you on in an arm wrestle and expect a win. I was doing a slow plod all day, but still expected to be in bits this morning. Less positively, felt the cold quite a bit, despite it being over 14 degrees and wearing a wettie.

^ What do you actually do for 5 hours straight swimming ?
Did you feed etc ?
Was this at Dover ? -

Got viral conjunctivitis and have been pretty ill. Plus scarily swollen eye, face, lymph nodes..... nice. Now in my other eye too. :( Getting better though, back at work today, the cycle in this morning was lovely, not even trying and my legs felt strong.
I reckon this weekend has got to be a loooonnng swim outside in the sun... cant wait !

Was this at Dover ?Folkestone - just plodded up and down parallel to the shore for safety reasons. We had some friends on the beach to hand us drinks bottles and food. I had a bottle of water and 2 bananas - probably not enough, and probably contributed to the sickness.
Some of the Channel guys had their bottles and food thrown to them on ropes, so they weren't stopping for more than 10 seconds or so for each feed. Biscuits, cereal bars, grape, nectarines, spoonfuls of peanut butter were all being used.
We got brought on stage at the Harbour Festival and given medals at the end. God knows why.

No sounds like you didnt eat enough ? Only water too ? Didnt you have any sports drinks or the like ?

No, I got stuck in the pub the night before and forgot to go shopping. I only had water because my mate had 2 bottles. Preparation is not my strongest suit.
Cant view that at work.
Human Race Hampton court thames swim was postponed yesterday, because of fast flowing river/debris and water quality.... ? Thats 2 now ( windsor ).
The windsor one has been re-scheduled for october..... cant see it being any better then ............. ?
In other news, I had a very trying child on saturday........ I need to be stricter and less friendly. Apparently he doesnt listen to the other young girl either, but the older teacher had no problems with him after me, typical !
