Look really similar (rapidly tab switch):

    http://www.sellesanmarco.it/en/Collezione/Saddles/89/Ponza%20Power%20Racing%20Open.html

The concor appears to have more of a hammock, which could have a huge difference, but not worth losing £20 buying new them selling 2nd hand, hence the saddle pool idea.

    They don't have many/ any cut-outs, which I need 50km+.

  • noiser, dibs that Romin if you ever shift it.

  • Will PM you tomorrow x

  • I have not, looks good. Got one for me to try?!

    Need a cut-out.
    Of them I've tried::
    Specialized Romin 130/ 143
    San Marco Ponza Open

I have to deal with a big drop as I'm pretty tall, so was super hopeful with the Romin... but found it to wide in the nose. The 130 is better than the 143. Willing to give the 130 more time though.

The Ponza Open is an interesting one it's great in ways but more than any other saddle I find myself wanting to adjust, not due to numbness but due to feeling off centre... of course constant adjustment makes things worse and is a distraction.

The comfiest saddles for short distances (no numbness) for me have been the Selle Italia Turbo (hence me being after a dome shape), then the San Marco Rolls, then the Charge Spoon.

Seriously though would people be up for a pool?
    I have 4 I could commit:
    Charge Knife
    Charge Spoon
    San Marco Rolls
    Specialized Romin 143

    Selle SMP ?

  • Read that article about ten times.
Again, nowhere in London to get... buy/ sell loss... back to the saddle pool idea.

  • I really like smps. But they are very hard to find for anything close to a good deal :/

  • Bike Whisperer have SMP test saddles.

  • Recently started going for some longer distances on fixed rather than just the London commute. After 40 miles yesterday my legs could keep going but my saddle was doing a number on me.. with padded shorts on

Play with the saddle angle and position before buying a new saddle.

  • Ism adamo or smp stratos for me.

  • Currently have Classic Flite, used SLR for few weeks, was too narrow and I couldn't find comfortable position.
So I would like saddle 140ish wide and slimmer then Flite. Don't care what brand it is, I just want to enjoy it with my ass and eyes.

  • Fizik Antares.

  • I'm selling a Specialised Romin 143 x

  • im not located in uk

  • Has anyone here got a Fizik Kurve? Are they worth the extra over the arione/antares etc?

I've given up trying to get my SLR into a comfortable position and after looking on the Fizik website I think I might be Chameleon. Should I go for an antares or the kurve?

  • I tried a Brooks B17 on my langster the other week and a 30 mile ride was a piece of piss.

My dilema is that the B17 is not quite what I want to use on a newer bike like a langster (2013 model)

    Any other suggestions?

Using the standard Riva(?) one is agony even on my 6 mile commute.

Edit: Actually I'm pretty sure it's this?

No? It's not the B17 Narrow, though thats for sure. Maybe someone else can clarify.

  • What's the question?

  • Whatever it is, it's clearly not that urgent.

  • lol, any newer looking saddles with the same width as the B17... Ignore the rest!

  • Comfiest saddle I've ever ridden, road-wise is Tokyo Fixed/Kinoko's cheap ol' TF import rivet one, oddly enough. Having said that, never ridden anything high end...

First post too - Hi everybody!

  • Is that really £3?

  • Bought a Selle Italia SLR 'Trans Am' Gel Flow for my commuter MTB way back in 2005. I think it cost me about 80 quid brand-new.
Loved it but decided to try a Fizik Arione when I built my first road bike. I didn't get on with the Arione, at all. The (now battered) SLR eventually made its way onto my road bike.
It was destroying my kit (and itself) due to being so worn, but rather than spend $229 on the new hideous version of it, I held out until a replacement popped up on Craigslist - which it finally did, last night.

$80, NOS, never even mounted. Stoked.

Looks like they dropped the 'Trans Am' name for 2006, but it's the same saddle.

  • I think I've finally worked out that I have different saddle requirements between my road bike and my track bike. On the road, I'm happy with a Fizik Arione (or similarly shaped Planet X) but on the track, things feel a little more scrunched up in the lower profile position and it's murder/pins and needles on the perineum towards the end of intermediates at Herne Hill. Am I basically looking at something with a hole in it? Anyone else have the same issues, who has similar road saddle preferences?

  • I find I can rotate my hips forward a lot further without discomfort on a Romin than I can on ye olde Regal. I think it's partly the cutout and partly it being a bit curved front to back. But, like you, on the road bike I don't tend to rotate that far forward for a flat saddle to be a problem.

  • after reading all this i have the feeling i should ditch my plastic cinelli unicanator

  • so to sum up, these saddles are recommended by forumgers.
Good to know what's good, cos there are so many saddles out there it's stupid
i'm interested to see how ga2g will digest this thread.

    charge spoon,
    san marco rolls

^Most popular for "town upright riding"

specialized toupe - popular for when your in the "racing" position. Not so good for upright position

    brooks b17
    brooks team pro
    brooks swift

    Fizik Arione
    selle italia turbo

I was on a Brooks Swift leather saddle for quite a while, but I can't say it was ever really comfortable for me. The reason for this I think is because the centre section of the saddle is too narrow for me.

Since the Swift is the only saddle shape from Brooks I like on a modernish bike, I got a Gilles Berthoud leather saddle instead. It has been super comfortable from day one and keeps getting better every day. Another great thing of the Gilles Berthoud is that you can ride it in the rain, so you won't need a saddle cover.
