Not half as wrong as actually sitting on it would be.

WHERE IS A GOOD SHOP TO TEST OUT SADDLES? CONDOR MAYBE?
oops sorry caps lock left on.
Depends which saddles you're after.
Usually shops have test saddles from one brand.Putney cycles (urr) - specialized and fizik versus
Condor - fizik and some san marco
Velosport (upper richmond rd) - fizik
Specialized stores have something like 90 day guarantee on their saddles, so if you're not happy you can return it. They will also measure your sitbones.
Selle italia does 30 day guarantee on gel flow saddles (check chicken cycles where to buy)
Bike store (pinner rd) - i heard that they stock selle italia test saddles + some others.
Pearson cycles should have something and sigma sport.
Bike Whisperer - selle smp
^that's from my search for perfect saddle in the last couple of months. -

Still struggling with the Arione I fitted to my steamroller. I went for around a 20 mile ride last night and it started getting uncomfortable after about 10. What I did notice though was that if I sat further back on the saddle it immediately felt much more comfortable. This got me thinking that I may have positioned the saddle wrong. I measured from the tip of the old saddle to the stem and replicated this measurement on the new saddle however I recall reading somewhere that the Arione is a longer saddle. I have moved it forward around 10 mm but have yet to give it a try.
Out of interest, what is the usual method for positioning a replacement saddle?Placement is up to you.
But I use the point where I expect my sit bones to be, to measure both reach and height.
I have the same thing with the Gobi. If its little too far back its horrible on the road.

get the tape measure out and work out the distance from bb to where your sit bones would be on a saddle/bike that is correctly set up for you. Then replicate that and the angle back from the bb as best you can.
It sounds like you've got widish sit bones and so are naturally sliding back to where the saddle is wider. The nice thing about the Arione is the extra length and how comfortable the nose is to sit on when you're putting some power down.. however I've found they just don't work that well for me over say, 70k +..
Fwiw, I find that Arione is perfect for riding in the drops, but that I sink into/around it when I'm on the hoods or tops (when your sit bones naturally widen again as you become more upright) -

The only saddle I could confidently recommend is the Specialized Romin, including a number of variants within the Specialized Romin range: I always liked the 'plain' version of the Specialized Romin the most, but it's not made anymore. I still have the Specialized Romin, however, on my 'track bike', which has been demoted to a 'rollers bike'. I've just removed it from my road-going fixed gear bicycle, and replaced it with a newer version of the Specialized Romin with a tiny bit more padding, a refined shape, and a cut-out that may or may not do anything, that I find more comfortable still, and have also been using on my road bike. Meanwhile, a 10-year-old Specialized Romin, but a slightly more padded version, still lives on my winter trainer/'turbo bike'. I also recently sold a TT-specific version of the Specialized Romin which served its purpose well on a slightly harsher road bike I no longer have.
In conclusion, everyone in the world should use a Specialized Romin, or probably not.

ED: I had used my mad paintshop skills to 'adjust' the middle saddle, and cover the other two with inner thighs. But it was graphic and unneeded.

I'm smearing mine with carbon assembly paste before bed... Was going to use saddle cream but that would be gay.

Looking at the Selle italia SLR range, Selle italia SLR range, what are the main differences; between the fibra, XP, Gel, Flow?
Is it some have holes, for ventilation/weight? and some have gel, for padding?
Can someone give a breakdown on what ir really means?
-
• #698
XP is cheaper version with heavier steel rails (normal has Ti)
Gel has, err, gel in it to pad yo' ass
Flow has a cut out in the middle for your perry knee ham.
Gel Flow - guess? -

I think I want a Turbo. For me they are just about the best looking saddles going. Are the new reproductions any good?

Just picked up a Romin Evo Pro on fleabay for thirty folding, carbon rail goodness
recently switched out my ti flite for an slr, the difference is amazing. modern saddle shapes are far flatter. much more comfortable.
slr for the win.
