  • xp stands for extra padding, innit?

  • Apparently. I've had both. Pretty much identical saddle except the XP had Vanox rails as opposed to Ti.

  • xp stands for extra padding, innit?

hehe, not it's not, i made that up :)

  • Oh you tool

  • I've got the SLR, the SLR XP, and the SLR T1.

XP has less give from the rails (yes, steel not titanium), but more padding - maybe something like an extra 3mm of foam (you could call it double the padding). SLR claimed 135g, XP claimed 165g. Add about 10% for each.

The T1 has a much greater stack height, a wider nose, and a shit load more gel-type padding, but is still not too squishy, and only weighs around 205g.

I like them all, in different ways/contexts.

  • good post, bumph!

  • I disagree, sir.

    I only ride Arione CX

  • were they made 20 years ago?

    Apologies, turn of phrase fail.

I like this review of the Fizik Arione and Aliante saddles.

  • (it's a Concor)

  • Hmmm saddles, depends what you want it for, When I did a lot of touring a brooks B17 was magic, not light ec but prob the best made seat. I still use one that's 15 years old! takes approx 20,000 kms to get good thought!!! otherside the rollls rock but doesn't last as long!

  • As has been said before on this thread/form, Saddle choice is a very personal thing, But

I am trying to choose between the "SLR Gel Flow" & the "Max Flite Gel Flow"

Saddle will used for commuting ( 16 Miles ) , Longer rides 50 + Miles & Genral Street riding,

Any one have any pro's or con's for either Saddle Or any other suggestions with in the Selle Italia family ?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated - Thanks - D

  • Zoncolan!

  • @Dovvles

I saw your post asking about the Zoncolan - But know one responded ....

You get it in the end ? How's it working out for you ?

  • & it looks great ...

  • Specializd Romin is very good indeed, like the same as the toupe but solid rather than flexible in the middle.

  • Still loving my Regal, but a year on, tis lookin a bit tatty!

  • Yeah, I have 2 of them now. One on my road bike (carbon rails) and one on my commuter (ti rails)

They are very good for me.

Was that the one on your superlight?

Felt really firm and a bit flat to me, not a big fan.

But then I like curvy padded sadles like the prologo scratch and the aliante.

  • Yep, that's the one. It is hard and flat but that's how I like them.

The cheaper option has more padding and a flexy base, the one you sat on is all carbon and covered in something resembling crepe paper.

  • SLR and Flite for me.
Turbos just to fuck about, anything else my sit-bones disapprove.

  • Me too.

SLR, Flite or Turbo. Only saddles I like really.

  • Hmmm... similar sit-bones. I mean if the balls don't touch it's not ghey, amirite?

  • Me too.

    How's the road testing going?

  • Sweet as. Haven't had a chance to ride more than 20mi in one go yet though.

  • You need to take it out for 70+. Well, I like to ride 100k or more before I really notice differences.
