European Bike Polo Championship! London?

  • Ok, so are you guys going to have some sort of open meeting for interested parties on Sunday?

And here's one for all the situationists (read: crypto-Trotskyite scum) out there: ABOLISH ALIENATION!

  • Charities have a greater fiduciary burden than LLCs, at least that's my impression, after having looked into the question when I was with the London Bicycle Messenger Association.

Running a charity is more complex, this is true, but there are benefits to this. Namely that you can reclaim Gift Aid (+28% on donations) and you don't have to worry about corporation tax (assuming you're playing by the rules). Whether or not the extra effort is worth it will be discussed at some point.

Also, as the LCEF is NOT a registered charity, any polo charity would not be able to give funds to it.

I discussed this with one of the technical bods at work and they said that relief of poverty is a genuine charitable activity. If LCEF came to us and said "so and so got hit by a car, he lives in a squat, has no savings and for whatever reason can't go on the dole" we could give him a bit of money - although someone would have to be in a bad way for us to be able to do that.

If we want to think about it a bit more seriously, I'll pick the brains of someone in the Charities department at work.

sign up here. The discussions have already begun with those who went to Zurich. It's getting a bit heated so I think it's best to discuss as 'one people' not just Londoners for now and see how it goes.
Sign up and let's get this started.
Please tell anybody who may be interested to get on there.

  • So are we going to have a discussion about this on Sunday? What time is your game?

  • 12pm, Downham Road

  • I think I may be subbing for Roxy. So I'll see you there...

  • WTF? This game was about the only one we had a chance of getting three points for. Damn it.

  • Yea, she's ill plus has a photo-shoot on Sunday. Photography more important than polo? Imagine that!

    Polo-4-eva!

    (wrong thread...)

  • Hey All,

    yeah, bummer.

Can we meet up and talk EBPC's around 3 at Brick Lane tomorrow?

  • ...

;348593']Sorry for the last minute change. Due to weather and league games being played today, the European Bike Polo Championship meeting Roxy had suggested for today at 3pm, brick lane court will now be at 5-ish (or whatever time the sun decides to set today) around the corner in Verge Bar.

  • Sorry all, couldn't make today. Will catch up on news in the week.

  • We decided (as a democratic collective) that you're no longer allowed to play polo.

    Sorry.

  • Drat.

  • Them's the brakes.

(is a team you cannot play on - because you're banned.)

  • Double drat.
Thanks for the heads-up Ho. You don't mind if I call you Ho, do you?

  • Not at all. Unless it's in a bike polo camaraderie.

  • Anyone know about polo in Spain ?

I'm going to Madrid next weekend and will take a bunch of flyers over to hand to anyone I see, but if there are any groups, teams or courts to visit then that'll give me somewhere to focus on.

Anyone got minutes from last weeks meeting as I missed it ?

  • I been trying to find any polo or fixed groups in Spain for a couple of days, but no luck for now.
but I think has to be something for sure, I will keep looking

  • Nice one Rik, I'll keep my eyes open when I'm over there.

Have you got any flyers, or did they all go with the kids to Paris ?

  • I can get you some for next week, when are you leaving? are you coming to NE polo next week?

  • I'm flying on Thursday but might be around Wednesday night, I'll see if anyone's got spares at BL tomorrow, otherwise I'll sort out popping by and grabbing a stack.

    Cheers mate.

  • I can meet you up on monday, somewhere close to Dalston if you wnat

  • MEETING - EVERYONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN HELPING OUT IF LONDON WINS THE BID, PLEASE COME.

If we are the only city bidding then we're meeting on tuesday the 18th. (this tuesday. two days from now)
if there is another city, then we're meeting tuesday Dec 9th. (though perhaps another meeting beforehand in this case would be necessary)

Can people get to a 7pm meeting or should it be 8?

I would like to vote/nominate/decide who is going to be in charge of what at this meeting. So please have a think about what you want to work on and whether you want to be heading it up or not.

the various sections are (this can be discussed as well) roughly:

    treasurer - budget man
    sponsorship
    press
    court/logistics/building
    refs/rules
    housing
    design/graphics
    parties/meetings/additional activities
    online logistics

I'll figure out place for the meeting asap.

  • 7 should be fine for me to get too.

  • I bit late, but we could try to get the same place we are using in monday, I can try to give them a call.
