what's worse: being tried and now being able to get off? Or not even feeling tired and being fully alert to your inability to sleep?

I suppose that depends on the judge, jury, witnesses, prosecutor, and defender. :)

Used to suffer badly with insomnia. Maybe 10 hours sleep a week on average. Found by taking all electrical devices (TV, sterio etc.) out of the bedroom, spending no time, except when sleeping and marital duties, in there it helps to reinforce that I am now tired. Took a few weeks to kick in, maybe a few hours per night. 6 years on and I get at least 6 hours per night. Still shit at waking up, but don't feel like the world is on soft focus.

This is not that. I think.

has anyone suffered with night terrors? I had a bout of fighting off unseen monsters and screaming at empty doorways (even picking a bedside table up and throwing it at the bedroom door at some imagined horror) about ten years ago and then it stopped as suddenly as it started. The night before last I woke up in a panic, heart racing ten to the dozen, gasping for breath - managed to give myself a massive bruise on the knee and graze my shoulder (I have no idea how) and last night again, I woke up screaming and found myself kneeling next to the bedroom door, panicked, heart racing, gasping for breath, dead arm (must have been sleeping on it) - my GF thought I was fucking dying - feel shattered today - what's that all about??!

Alien Abduction syndrome. The issue is not undisputed. Look for any physical marks other than your injuries. Consider visiting a physician.

Wow so it's been a while, tucked up in bed asleep for 22:45, woke at 23:20ish, too hot and jolted from a bad dream. couldn't get back to sleep, had some toast and marmite and now on sofa watching top gear on demand hoping the dulcet tones of Clarkson and May will send me off again. Got to be up at 05:30 for work, so pissed off I'm awake...

Last night I went for a ride at 4am, no real plan on where to go. Rode 20miles in just over an hour and still didn't feel tired. Carried on reading the newspaper until 6.30 then fell asleep. About 3hrs sleep and yet I'm wide awake again.

i'm going to try and sleep now. i don't feel remotely tired but i'm going to close my eyes and listen to the news quiz extra maybe i'll drift off
I had a lot of trouble sleeping and wasn't going to bed until like 7am and then slept for just a few hours, was always exhausted and powerless and all that, had a lot on my mind, worries, troubles and all. Not even working in a warehouse, doing physical work, helped. But now that I have an office job and have to put more thoughts into my work, I get so exhausted that I fall asleep between 9-10 in the evening and can't even keep my eyes open, if I try and stay awake longer. If I miss the gap, I can probably keep up till about 12, but with very little ability to do anything.
