SF, if I lived where you live, I wouldn't cycle.
So much respect.

I picked up a pair of the Planet X deluge gloves a couple of weeks ago.
Im sure my hands are the same size as each other but one glove is significantly smaller than its opposite number despite both being labeled small.
They are also not even close to waterproof. 20 minute commute and they had totally soaked through. very disappointing!

This may be a stupid idea, but before I go and waste some money testing it out I thought I'd ask.
As someone that suffers badly with cold hands and quite severe Reynauld's, would I start to benefit from giving my hands a good rubbing with winter embrocation before heading out on the bike? Would it heat my hands, improve circulation or just do nothing? I appreaciate that it may be a bit weird and slimy, but that may be a price worth paying.

No idea but whatever you do, don't rub your eyes with your gloves off afterwards!

No idea, but if you give it a go I'd be interested to hear how you get on. #notlookingforwardtojanuary

Slap me if you've heard this a thousand times before but have you tried lobster gloves?
I've just got these http://www.tenn-outdoors.co.uk/cold-weather-windtex-lobster-split-finger-cycling-glove--black-sml (although when they were on offer for £5) and so far no numbness at all. I know it's not been that cold yet but the fact that there is ample space in the glove for and no pressure on my fingers seems to have helped so far. -

I just ordered a pair of the planet x wind blocker gloves (mostly because they were cheap) will report back!

Bought some Skealskinz Ultra Grips this week, pretty good so far. Fingers were a bit cool going home last night, but this morning they were nice and toasty. Thinking a pair of silk glove liners might be an idea for the really cold days.

The planet x gloves I bought seem ok so far, very comfortable. It's been fairly warm in Bournemouth since they arrived so I can't comment on their warmth or wind blocking ability yet. They seem pretty well made for the price as well.

Silk glove liners and my heavy Gore gloves this morning= fingers started to freeze.
Surely there must be a pair of gloves somewhere in the world that can stay warm in this weather, whilst allowing control of a bicycle?

I'm currently on the new version of Specialized's SubZero lobster glove (way nicer than the old ones with the marigold style rubber liner). Best thing I've found so far, but still not perfect. Reckon I still have space for a silk/merino liner under the Spesh liner though.
One thing I've been meaning to try...lots of people have lately been mentioning to me the fact that the blood vessels to your hands are at the very surface of your wrists and that's the point that causes cold/circulation issues. Going to get some cheap tennis style terry wristbands and try riding with those in addition to the gloves; they should fit inside the SubZero's wrist section nicely. Fingers crossed.

I would pay a reasonable amount of money for this information.

^ This.
I wear 2 pairs of gloves and warm them on the radiator before putting them on, but still within 5 minutes of leaving home I've lost all feeling in my thumbs. -
• #671
Heated gloves?
-
• #672
I've tried using heated gel pads but they don't help all that much, they just warm the palms of your hands and it's my fingers and thumbs that get super cold.
Gel pads for your toes, on the other hand, are amazing. I need to buy more.
-
• #673
No, not the gel pads the gloves that have the wires all through 'em.
Can't remember where but I saw a pair for a tenner somewhere recently:
There's a thread by Scott on here about them.

I use the same two shitty pairs of gloves for everything and alternate when one gets washed. One is neoprene the other windstopper but they're both old and they're both cold. I want to upgrade this year..
Dug out my winter gear last night for a stock check. Putting my lobster gloves on reminded me why I hated them. Yes they are cosy warm. But once your hand is slightly wet. If you take them off. You will never get them back on, as the liner bunches up and sticks to wet hands.
I'm now definitly looking to get some pogies (and possibly re-sew them to fit h bars). Then I should be able to use plain full finger MTB gloves all winter.
