Let's go round there and burn their shed down!

In effect then, LFGSS itself is an Epic Fail.
I think we may have just become recursive. I'm off to jump a shark.

I just do think they get it/us/this

It's obvious that they'd go for something like kiddy bike clubs, something sensible looking like that.

.
well as a "cycling facility" yes. It's failed.
but then it's not as good as a velodrome, or a BMX track, or a cycle path that goes from one bit of cornwall to another, is it?

As I've said before, I'm sure the reason why the forum wouldn't have got further in the running was because the nomination didn't give the judges enough information about it. I'd suggest putting together a full nomination next year, in the 'Community Cycling' category. The projects that won would have submitted such full nominations. We get so many entries that we can't chase up every entry and compile information on it. Better luck next time! Perhaps the forum will be up to 10,000 members by next year? 8-)

It was nominated in the wrong category. Dave was sent a request for further information, which I think no forum member replied to (?). Award winners here:

The best facility award went to Frampton Park Estate bike parking in Hackney and parking at Shadwell DLR station.

Thanks for the info Oliver - I'm not sure we really got our act together. There are probably people on here who would like to make a more serious effort next year.

Almost correct--the award winner in the 'Best Initiative for Young People or Children' category was the STA Bikes Family Cycling Club.

The winners seem to be community groups, councils and businesses. All of whom have an interest in making themselves look good (i.e. to actually bother to apply for this properly, and big themselves up). We have no interest in what others think of us. You choose which is more valid for the growth and sustanence of cycling - actual stuff happening or people banging on about how good they are.
It seems that LCC are awarding this to whoever can sell their project best, if they are unable to have look at the applicants activities for themselves. I mean, just cos an application is made badly, does that make the project bad?
Also worth remembering that LCC, CTC and the like get cash from government. This forum is paid for by the more generous members, and relies on the selfless work of VB. We have no vested interests in making good PR for government or business activities. We are a real community, the fact we couldn't make a good application just shows we're too busy burning people's sheds down.

No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Damn, who's going to pay for the beer at the Christmas party now?

Not that I would have chosen to use any awarded cash in that manner.
We'd also have bought whisky.

Awards are meaningless anyway, look at the Mercury Music Prize/Brit Awards/NME Awards etc
Yeah well done Coldplay for being THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD TODAY pukes on statuette

Awards are usually given to the best-paid person who is willing to turn up to the ceremony.

We always say that when we lose.
I like awards, it means we can ride around with a smug look and a swagger and lord it over the peasants on their hybrids... we're clearly more deserving of the road space.
Oh, and we could've got drunk on the proceeds.
When B&S won the Brit Award, we got so much free booze it was nuts. I think we were drunk for about 3 months afterwards. Never knock a good award, or even a bad one... they're all good for laughs.
Speaking of which, why the hell haven't I been nominated for an MBE already?
