also, like those pointless cunts on secret millionaire, occasional philanthropy doesn't make them morally superior.

it might be worth pointing out that nobody said it did.

I'm always suspicious of 'philanthropists' who want to help people, providing it's broadcast on a television programme
I'd love someone to turn around and say 'we don't need your money you patronising cunt, we're pretty happy as we are' (then mug them as they left)

yes, fair point, but cgNNNN is saying that she gives to charity regularly, it's a way of making her feel better about herself. In reality she probably gave £5 last red-nose day.

Stop lambasting those who give to charity.
I personally gave a chugger a piece of my mind just yesterday. -
• #282
what exactly are you trying to say?

It seems cg5154's ethical code works something like this:
If something is legal, it is legitimate, moral, and ethically acceptable.
If you can afford something, it is legitimate, moral, and ethically acceptable.
If you cannot afford something, you have no right to it - but that doesn't change its moral qualification for those who can.You could probably take it a step further and say:
If it is illegal, it is likely to be because the state is trying to nanny us (i.e. an inefficient unfree market system).
Rep added - I wanted to cover this when I saw it raised earlier in the thread, but thought I was coming to things too late.
There's a big difference between 'legal' and 'ethical'. You can do things that are legal which are morally unjustifiable, while at the same time you can do things which are technically illegal. I certainly can't subscribe to the rationale that if it's legal it's therefore ok.

i think you are wrong. it's away of making you(us) feel better about her.
it seems we are all bashing cg. I don't think you are a bad person cg just for somebody who works in 'the financial industry' you come across as financially naive with no real grasp of how risk is managed (or mismanaged)in the global financial market.

Much like the people who got paid shitloads of cash, but it's alright cos they gave some of it to charity

so it's wrong to get paid shit loads of cash, yeah?

No, my point was that they get paid loads of cash for actually not doing the job they're paid for
