  • I've found Hope Vision 1 suitable for audaxing in the dark, lots of unlit country roads but probably not going the same pace you described.

Recently went overnight off-roading with 2 Vision 1s on the bars and Diablo on helmet. Rate both lights highly, ran just a single Vision 1 for most flat/up sections and either doubled up or tripled up with the Diablo for any downhill sections. Moon was out but there was moving cloud, would probably have been fine with both Vision 1s constantly if it had been a darker night and the Diablo for descents, opening gates, pushing sections.

Never had any issues with either Hope mount, think it works really well across several bikes

  • Anyone know a decent rear light that can be mounted on a rear rack light plate?

  • Thanks for the replies.

I did look at the Spark, but the rubber band mount looked a bit flimsy. Is this the case? Any opinions on the Hope mount?

The Strada looks great, but too many £££'s for me. Basically I'm looking for a light that will allow me to extend my commute into the lanes after work. It'll just be for those couple of hours after sun down.

I've got a Spark that I use for commuting and am still using the original rubber band mount. It seems plenty secure enough.

Lots of people on here have had issues with the Hope Vision 1 mount, but I've always found it to work well. It was my night light of choice until I got the Diablo, it illuminates well but if you're riding at speed, i.e. greater than 15 mph, I find the length of the beam a bit short.

  • Cheers andyp.

Edging towards the Hope I think, but I think I'll go to evans and handle both.

I'm looking for a front light that's suitable for riding unlit country roads at pace. It's been done to death I'm sure, but can someone point me at the best light out of these.
    Hope Vision 1 - £60
Lezyne Super Drive XL - £75
    Exposure Joystick - £80

At what pace? How long for? Bigger is better, basically.

Ah, well, I've got away with a Vision 1 for that. Carry some spare AAs all the time anyway as the old model just stops without warning.

Yep, that's the way I'm leaning. Spare batteries will be packed.

Will post a photo tomorrow evening.

  • Could anyone recommend upto £100 to see lights?

Unlit country lane type lighting required please?

    Cheers

  • Magicshine 808 clone, <£15 off eBay, one for each bike.

  • Its for a colleague for who money is no object and I reckon would probably want to spend on a name rather than knock offs.

I got one of those clones, it worked fine for a few months then the wire connecting started playing up and now only works if held at a funky angle so has been resigned to the bottom draw.

  • If money is no object and you're not going to read the previous posts on this page describing a similar scenario... get a decent dynamo hub + light and something that runs on AA batteries as back up (e.g. Hope Vision 1)

  • I hear MagnicLight is dynamoless but there is some confusion as to how they work.

Turned the house upside down last night looking for the remote lead. It was in a carrier bag in my bag. I've a horrible feeling I've recycled it. I'll be getting a new one and will post a photo.

Basically I thread the Velcro strap once through each of the loops on the button so the button sits in the middle. I think place the button on the inside of the brake hood (where the thumb rests when riding on the hoods) and wrap one end of the Velcro strap over the top and the other under the hood and let them stick. The cable is then long enough to reach the light even if mounted next to the stem.

The only issue of mounting this way is if you have the prickly bit of Velcro against the hood its rather abrasive on the rubber after 3 months. If the prickly bit is outwards its abrasive on the gloves. Its a very convenient place to put the button though.

Very Bright Inexpensive Bike Light Review - YouTube

if i was riding in pitch black, i'd deffo equip a few crees and a battery pack on the frame.

  • He raises a very valid point (the prices are eye-watering!) but I need reliability so I'm sticking with the all in one Exposure style unit.

  • and better design and local manufacturing etc.

Next guy tells me that I am stupid for paying £120 for Diablo where I could've saved £100 on ebay light gets a fucking punch

  • I do also like to buy locally made stuff if I think about it. Plus, laser-etched logos. Nuff said. ;)

  • Maybe I should see if they'll sponsor me :)

  • Hadn't considered VAT on lights before seeing this.
