I think my main point has and always will be that you have people that whinge, then you have people that criticise constructively and actually engage in what they have criticised to help make it better.
For instance Scott, you whinged a lot about the bright times event, but did you actually help to find a venue, to organise the event, or get involved in the next one to help make it better?
Its all very well whinging, but if you then can't be bothered to act upon your complaints and grievances to make things better, then it kind of makes your complaints appear pretty hollow and pointless in the first place -

but you see its the ones who you call whinging miserable gits who are organising the rides, posting up events, keeping the drinks going, etc etc... if newbies want to be a part of the forum, contribute, get into the offline aspects of the forum, and spend less time asking inane questions that can be easily answered via the power of google.
@ will, this forum will never be an equal opportunities playground, because the majority of women who are into bikes will never obsess as men do about the minutiae of them, the small minority who do find this place enjoyable/tolerable, its never going to be 50/50, but if the forum gets anywhere close to a 70/30 man/woman split, I think it'd be a better place.
For the record mate, I would never class you as a whinging miserable git, yes you may complain now and again, but you do a hell of a lot to help out with rides/events, and welcoming new people to drinks etc, I think the forum would be a poorer place without your prescence, also 99% of your criticism is pretty constructive and grown up, as opposed to the blunt and quite harsh opinions/attitudes often voiced on here.

According to BikeSnobNYC
fixed-gear culture didn't even close its doors to new members until March of 2009
So anyone after that, sorry.

Oh the irony eh!

I'm by no means a prolific poster but through going to drinks, polo, rides etc the forum starts to make a lot more sense. You boys and girls are fucking welcoming in real life, and it's a bit sad to see you arguing like this on here. By all means flame the/us new guys when they post shit but don't scare them away from the events. The events and the social side is what makes this forum not good but fucking great.

Scott DJ'ed at the Bright Time gig and check out any flyer for rollapaluza, alleycats polo tourneys etc and you'll find that Scott has provided prizes for nearly all of them…

I reckon you originals have created something really truly freeform and creative.
people come on for all sorts of reasons now, Ive been riding bikes my whole life (38)and dont read many of the techy threads, I just ride bikes all the time-- but loads do seek advice there. the random turns and threads are part of this places originality imo. Only wish as a newbie myself I was better at computer creativity.
the numpty questions should keep getting stamped on though, Platini particularly cracks me up, presume he was an original so power to him.its all good really. -

I didn't whinge about what i thought was wrong with it either....i put my points across.
Other people were happy with it...so that's cool.
I didn't get involved in the next one because it's more about the social side and the music simply sets the scene...i prefer to play gigs where the music is the focal point.
Hence, i'm not bothered about spinning again...if everyone else is happy, why would i want to try and change that?
That doesn't however make my points about what i considered wrong with it pointless though as i still played there. -

easy Tiger, little bit of fact checking here

I know he dj'ed there, I don't need to check my facts, i'm well aware of scotts contributions towards alleycats/polo tourneys/rolla paluza etc.
But i'm talking about bright times specifically, I commend you for the cracking flyer by the way, that was really awesome. But to get to the point, which was after totally slagging off an event that he had no hand in organising: Did he offer to lend a hand or any constructive suggestions for how the next bright times may be improved? no. -

Shit thread, awesome tags... Who gives a toss about al this bollocks anyway?
The one thing that would really help me is a PM when a punning thread pops up... Could we automate that in some way? ;p -

I think I probably miss most of the threads that annoy people, as I hardly ever read any tech threads. I'm not very mechanical and tinkering with bikes has never been high on my list of priorities. I can understand it if someone reads a lot of those, though, and constantly has to face such questions, that they get frustrated.
Maybe a thread about all those noises your bike makes could be called for ;)

Anyways, i'm backing out of this thread now, I don't like the direction in which this is heading.

Maybe you DO need to check some facts...cos then you'll see that i said several times that i'm glad everyone else had a good time, but that it's not what i thought it was going to be...which is why i didn't get involved in the next one. -

I am with Jo. he doesn't winge and look at how old he is? he is an example to us all.
Crazy JAmes.. do no such thing. it's not going that way!
There are loads of great new members and loads of forum users who take. just as there are fantastic old memebers and winging gits.
but when it comes to that pint at the bar for the christmas party, GSID or polo tourney it all works so why stress it -

Not entirely true, Pip... I'm always whingeing about my ailments...

And i'm glad it's getting better...but there are plenty of spinners on here to cover it.
It's no biggie. :)
i lurked for frickin ages before i joined, because then lurking was enough and i didn't need any questions answered that i couldn't already find out myself.
the moaning didn't put me off or anything, i'm british, moaning is 2nd nature in this country. no wait, 1st nature.
