• Thanks for that.

    Chrome looks pimp.

I opted to just go a solid Brunswick green and line the lugs in gold. It looks sick.

I just dropped my second frameset with them today. RAL6027. Can't wait.

  • will armourtex be able to coat my headtube in a different colour to the rest of the frame ? like in a Raleigh track?

Based on having two framesets done and having a few conversations with the staff, the answer to that would be "it depends". The thing it mainly depends on is the complexity of the job you're asking for. Call them and ask? Take it in and see what they say following an examination of the task at hand?

  • Advice please for someone who has never had a frame powder coated. Local firm, K&N Finishers near Portsmouth, have quoted 35 quid for frame and fork. There is only small amount of chrome on my steel pinarello, one of the rear stays and fork crown. He says the chrome will get removed by the sandblasting. I asked if he can mask the chrome as ideally I'd like to preserve it but says he doesn't mask any part of frame apart from threaded areas. Is there anything I can use to mask these areas during sandblasting or is this impossible?

  • My Dave Russell was clear coated by Armourtex.

  • The prices are not far off enamelers though, which look better on old lugged frames IMO.

On a quick note. 'any old powder coater' tends to charge about £40 for stock colours. Or in my case £35 for white and clear coat, it was stunning.

Had a frame done there and they masked the chrome stays. Was stove enamelled though. Didn't find the finish was very good from them though and I had two others powder coated there too. I used Archers in Portchester for my last frame but the finish wasn't good. I used to use A P Robinson years ago and they were good till they stopped doing on off small jobs but I'm tempted to go back now and see if that has changed, what with the current economic climate n all.

  • Oh yeah, K&N must be short of work too coz I paid £50 quid a pop a couple of years ago.

  • people in Portsmouth......... i got a bike sprayed here: http://safetyairservices.co.uk/home

abou £60 for standard colour, £80 if its a bit special.
they shot blasted it, powder coated it and lacquer. once i've progressed out of the 'nursery' - i'll start a thread documenting my project for ya'll.

  • Is the pricing for a steel respray at Armourtex still £49?

  • RAL 3003 - "Ruby Red" Cross Check

Nice guys. Did a good job (respray, front wheel build, whole bike assembly) for a decent price.

  • Who? Armourtex?

  • Yup.

  • Chris what did they charge for the full bike assembly?

Did they cable and index gears and everything also?

  • they have a full option bike shop in there now too

  • anyone powdercoated cranks before?
    whats the durability like

  • Chris what did they charge for the full bike assembly?

Respray (plus lacquer), front wheel build, and whole bike assembly came to £190. Had to get gears, V-brakes, and bar tape adjusted/re-done afterwards elsewhere though, just to get everything spot-on.

  • sounds like a waste of money for the rebuild then, if you managed to disassemble..

  • On the contrary, if you don't have the skills or not up to the task of taking responsibility for your own life then ya

i don't mind supporting my LBS, cheap peace of mind#Brake less Rider

  • I don't have the kit for installing/removing a headset, or the know-how to set up the gears correctly. I didn't disassemble it. Most places will charge £100+ for a full assembly, so including the paint job and front wheel build, plus some cables, it is a fair price.

  • nono, thats cool. Of course If you're not up to it, that's fine. (and it's cool that they offer the service now)

But I would still expect that the relatively important things like brakes and gears be spot on, if I were paying myself. I would have gone back to armourtex rather than get someone else to sort it.

  • I dropped in my pompino this morning. Thought I had made my mind up ahead of dropping it off looking at RAL charts but their display board distracted me... ended up going for something quite different (Transparent violet) from what I went in thinking I wanted (RAL 5022: Night blue)

It was also from the 'more expensive side of the board' but still quite reasonable at £80.75 for frame and forks. Pick up next wednesday.

I had read somewhere that they only take cash but the chap who helped me this morning said cash or card was fine.

  • Will they remove a headset with the right tools and skill ...?

  • Just finished preping my front Spoke wheel... waiting for wax/grease remover before going any further.. hope the paint will stick to the braking surface as i dont plan to run a brake and its looks cleaner i think

going from red to matte black

    masked and prepped

mock up of black/yellow tire currently not in use

im kinda bummed about the head tube angle after swapping back to 700c
feels really responsive and aggressive with the 650

didn't turn out half bad for my first attempt at a respray on the front wheel
