I think they should stay on fine if you apply after, or you could clear coat it yourself instead of getting them to do it..

Thanks for answer but i'll now ask an even noobier question....How does one 'clear coat' oneself....especially as i don't want to spoil the job done by Armourtex?

Do Armourtex do dayglo luminous in the dark paint ?

I'm looking to get a panel job done on my bike, but would be riding it through the city daily so am slightly worried about durability if I'm getting it done with traditional paints.
Would it be completely ridiculous to get a base colour done in powder by armourtex, and then bring it to someone a bit handier to get panels (and decals etc) done in normal paint?
Price isn't thaat much more, and I figured it would last twice as long.Stupid or practical?
This also depends on the availability/existence of someone who will do paneling and possibly create/mask out and paint on some decals (Geoffrey Butler have pretty boring decals so I figured I might as well improvise there) etc in or around London for a half decent price (Vaz?) so if anyone knows of anyone people do let me know too.

There is a 2Pac spray product available on Ebay called NuAgain.
It is quite pricey but very good and tough. It is a chemical process to cure and takes a bit of time to fully harden but it is good and strong.
It coluds slightly with any moisture but this goes away when cured. If applied in coats built up gradually, the aromourtex finish will shine through!!

I collected my Surly Cross-Check from Armourtext today, done in gloss black with lacquer, so nothing too daring! Some pics --

...You have all the tools and supplies you need, it just requires a bit of technique...

I've done a full strip down of my frame and forks, with the exception of the start nut that's inside the steerer. Does anyone know if that needs to be removed before they paint the fork?
can anyone confirm this? I think the star nut is alu so will it melt?
-
• #1160
they don't bake it that hot.
-
• #1161
I left the star nut in the one I've just posted ^^^^ and it was OK - but that wasn't based on informed opinion!

• #1162
that'll do me. cheers

Question.
I had a frame powdercoated a few years back, before I really knew anything about the process. Came back with a surface like orange peel in several places, especially the forks.
Guy said it was because the metal is weird, nothing to do with anything he did.
Was he full of shit and should I have demanded he redo it?

Armourtex do Panels.
I don't know.. They do multiple colours, but I don't know if I would trust them to do mask out intricate paintwork etc.
I just don't know anyone else outside of Mario Vaz who has experience with more detailed paint work. -

Just did a couple of frames in a light blue (RAL 5024 i think pastel blue) with a metallic lacquer. Came out a treat! Better pictures to follow once the sun comes out....might be a few months. They did a great job with only some minor issues with drippy bits and a couple of rough patches on the womens frame (i assume from where it was hanging). But the masking was all top quality and it looks incredible!

Remember with normal paint you have to let it dry and harden properly then you will have the finish you desire and you wont/shouldnt need to powdercoat then have panels enamelled
Hope this helps

(posted this in current projects already but thought it pertinent)
Had this done at Armoutex a couple of weeks ago.
I think it's RAL 6005. £75.75 including lacquer.
There are before and after shots. Apologies for the shit pictures from my phone.

Armourtex Blue Starlight £120
That is just the sort of look I am after! Can you confirm the RAL number? Is "Starlight" the laquer finish?
FWIW, I have found that a Google image search along the lines of [ame="http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sugexp=les%3B&cp=16&gs_id=6&xhr=t&q=RAL+5013+bicycle&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&bpcl=38897761&biw=1182&bih=846&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=9Qe2UNjhI6GJ0AXfq4CADg"]RAL 5013 bicycle[/ame] often gives some real world examples of a RAL colour under consideration.

Went to Armourtex yesterday, to drop a frame to PC.
Was glad to know that it is now possible to have your frame PCed in any color/finish, apply decals and have it clear coated after (can't remember exactly what was the finish).
This however, will cost you an additional £90!!!.... so yeah, fuck it.
The decals have also to be applied by you, can't confirm whether or not they can supply them
but i was made sure they wouldn't place them.
On another note, the number of colors/options has almost doubled now. This and the fact that
Armourtex is now a bike shop too. Full assistance as any other bike outlet.
Pretty handy since now you can drop your frame, still with the BB and HS attached as they will sort it. (fiver each).
Will update when collect the frame. -

If you don't mind, what did you ask for? And, what did it cost?Cost 80 quid a frame. The frame is a Peugeot 753 and was already chromed under the paint, so they just masked it after blasting....charged something like a tenner a stay....
If i get a frame powder coated at Armourtex. After painting, will 531 and frame name decals stick to the powder coating or peel off? Would lacquering the frame after sticking on the decal help the decal stay securely onto the frame?....Apologies for asking a noob question in advance.
