• This is what they did with mine, £80 mixte frame and forks.
Submitted Thurs morn, received it back Sat arvo.

  • non hipster pics?

  • ^what

  • Not much detail up there along with odd angels (angles).

  • Lovely plumage though.

  • I want to go full hipster and get a Chromaflair finish for my Vigorelli does anyone know where I can have this done?

  • anyone know how this is done or anyone that will do this kind of paint job? I had a Carrera frame with the same effect so it can't be an expensive process.

  • Death Spray.

  • Think they may be a bit spendy.

  • They're also the best ;-) But yes, I agree. If I wanted a really really special paint job, which I think the Rossin has, I think I'd want to go somewhere fairly costy though.

  • Like I said before, I had a Carrera with exactly the same affect on it. Not really in the market for spending loads of money on a paint job if I don't need to.

  • Looks like Bike Bukkake to me

  • has anybody ever done a matte metallic kind of finish? I'd like to see some photos for reference/inspiration.

metallic undercoat and coloured laquer gives a fairly matte texture with good depth. Looking at around £120 though as opposed to the £60-70

I get the feeling that a paintjob at production scale has less of a bearing on price than we assume..

  • The point I was trying to make is that I think deathspray is a bit overkill to do what i figure must be a fairly straightforward process. I may be wrong but I can't help thinking it coult be done cheaper elsewhere. If I had an idea of the process, I might have a go myself.

thanks. that's a bit dearer than the project wrrants atm tho.
I know you can get a metallic powder coat and matte as well so I thought there might be the combination of the two... in one coat.

    Look exactly like that?

Carrera used to make some very good high end bicycle at the time before London's Famous London gotten overridden with those "Tour de France" yellow road bicycle, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a decent paintjob.

    Also, the other thing is that the Rossin look extremely well done, almost like a marble finish, whether the cheaper mass produced one look a little off, like this;

  • Was a Carrera Corsa 14 with 105 groupset, 708 tubing and pressed lugs. It was okay but nothing special. The paint looked almost exactly the same as that Rossin but in different colours. Not like that one you've posted (which I actually really like).

Done a bit of research and I think it might be something I can do myself. Just think it's going to be very time consuming.

  • My old art teacher's classroom was done with the same effect as that Rossin (as was a Diamond Back Ascent I nearly bought once, in case anyone cares...). they had a machine with paint in a hopper and cranked a handle, and it spat out paint rivulets to give that effect on the wall. Probably not that difficult to do, but would require the machine to do it...

I imagine there's a name for the technique...

  • Paintbrush dipped in paint and then flicked?

  • Naked Twister™ with each participant using a different colour.
Not the same effect obviously, but cooler story bro.

  • I wanted to post this here after a fantastic job done by Armoutex.

The frame is a 1953 Holdsworth Cyclone with Nervex Lugs and 531 Tubes. I brought it on eBay with a mishmash of components (2 different sized wheels!) as a bike to build for my GF to encourage her to enjoy cycling.

It has been built up with an Ambrosio wheelset, Stronglight cranks and BB, Nitto Technomic Stem and Nitto B603 Promenade Bars. A pair of NOS alloy mudguards from Racer Rosa in Walthamstow and a Shimano 600 seat post. Dia Compe vintage brakes.

It is in no way a sympathetic resoration but it is a beautiful bike to ride and to look at (IMHO)

It is RAL 6027with Gold/Silver sparkle. Cost £80 Powdercoat. £10 headset fitting and cleaning threads. 3 working days turnaround.

Lug lining using automotive paint from Halfords: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_201987_langId_-1_categoryId_165580

Transfers from H Lloyd Cycles. The seat tube is not period. All sealed with Nuagain 2 Pac in a can laquer. Recommended - expensive but a great product.

Just need to match the grips with the saddle and fit the Decals on the downtube.

    Well done Armourtex!! Thank you!!

    With lug lining:

    Built up with mudguards:

  • Handsome and well done; I'd say match saddle to grips with a Brooks. COBIO*

  • Yeah it's lovely, although I would agree that the saddle is a bit skinny, aesthetically speaking. Looks like a slightly better quality version of the bike that I built for my girlfriend.

Agreed. I was looking to put a nice Honey Brooks Flyer S with matching grips but alas can't get over the fear of leaving a brooks locked up outside for more than a few minutes!
