This thread shows you how to post pictures here.
And this is a good gear calculator that also shows the number of skid patches.

Btw, what are Bontrager X-Lite Hard Cases like for skidding? They seem tough as nails and I'd recommend them on that basis but I don't know how they stand up to skid abuse.

Lots of people are riding those continental top contact tyres. Come with a 1 year anti-puncture garuntee which is pretty good.

Get decent tyres.
Make sure you pump them up to the right pressure once a week.
Check for glass and other alien objects once a week. (Dig them out)
Don't ride in the gutter if you can help it.
Don't skid and ride under 10mph and you should be good! -

Stop skidding.

Guess that's what you would've been doing with no rear wheel eh? :)

Swap your front and rear tyres around every other week or so. Or if you cannot be bothered to do that and you have a low number of skid patches, remove the rear tyre and reposition it on the rim.

Hardcases are horrible for skidding. If you skid for more than ten feet or so, the rubber on the tyre disintegrates and comes off in lumps. Good for every day riding though.
Like hippy says, the best way to make a tyre last is to not skid it. But where's the fun in that?
Conti Top Contact. Tough as nails.

i skidded through a hardcase in about 6 minutes.

remove the rear tyre and reposition it on the rim.
not necessary - just rotate the wheel one chain link

Doh, didn't think of that. Yep, much easier.

I recommend armadillos. I've had one puncture in 3 tires. I only took the old ones off because i could see inner tube through it.
-

Yeah, I finally took the armadillo off the cuntster tonight.. it has so many holes in it i just figure it would leave me sad if it finally did puncture. my god those tyres are tough. Still, I have about 10 pairs of road tyres to kill off now..

NEVER rotate your rear tyre to the front.
ALWAYS use the best/newest tyre on the front. You need grip at the front, less so the rear.
You don't want some skidded up piece of shit on the front. You might move the front tyre to the rear and put a new one on the front but never put old tyres on the front.

+1 to what windy81 said; and there are lots of choices.

a 47t chainring will give you as many skidpatches as you have teeth on the rear cog. Or double that if you can skid with either leg....
Of course despite running a 47t CR I only do liitle skidstops, no tricks.
EDIT
Oh yeah, and welcome. -

Hippys right. Though I didn't realise it until he said so, this is what I do.
check how many skid patches you have on your ratio. and invest in good tyres.
