  • You're faster than me though, you're probably melting the tyres around the corners.. :)

  • I've been using Armadildo Roubaix Elite for a few puncture-free months. They've got some nasty cuts, and I've had to dig out some nasty looking chunks of glass etc but no probs so far.

No real complaints about the ride, but the "Elite" is apparently a lighter weight Armadildo, so maybe that helps.

I have no positive experience of any Conti tyres.

  • inserts there are some extra puncture proof linings you can put inside the tyres to give that extra punctureproofness

  • dicki inserts there are some extra puncture proof linings you can put inside the tyres to give that extra punctureproofness

have you got a name or a link...?

I friend of mine just wraps his inner tube in an older one. Swears by it. I can't see it adding much myself, but might be worth a shot.

  • Haven't done that trick since moving to fixed and skinny tyres, but the old inner tube trick works a charm. I ride on armadillos but I don't think they're worth the price - £25 each! :-O

  • yep, armies are pricey....but some of the large chunks of shit that i dig out of them are very impressive. Gonna try hard-cases if the armies ever puncture. thx for the tips.

  • Looks like I'm the lone voice here, but I like my Gatorskins.
They are not as puncture proof as Bonties or Armadillos and the sidewall maybe a bit weak but I think they are one of the grippiest/quickest tyres at 115PSI under £20.

  • I'll join you MA3K. I like my gators. cheap and no punches in 4 months, touch wood!

  • gators are crap, they puncture but roll well, for the city armadillos are the onmy choice, i've ordered some rubinos but they're not here yet so i don't know anything about them.
Armadillos tho are slippery and expensive, heavy and roll really bad but are bomproof and skidproof. It's all a compromise.

  • conti gp 4seasons for me - good compromise between ride and puncture-proof-ness....

  • ...of course, that when i'm not puncturing tubs!

  • Rubinos are good - one thing to be aware of is that the wire bead ones can be a real bitch to fit on some rims. They're the only tyres that I've ever had any problems with and I know of lots of thers who have found the same. I'd go for Rubino pros - much better grip, better roll and road feel and they avoid the fitting problems.

  • Twice the price though.

  • Momentum Rubinos are good - one thing to be aware of is that the wire bead ones can be a real bitch to fit on some rims. I'd go for Rubino pros - much better grip, better roll and road feel and they avoid the fitting problems.

Oh yes... They take me about 10 minutes (if I'm lucky) to get back on the bloody rim. But at £7.50ish for the tube and tyre I'll put up with it :)

  • Jos I always felt that vittorai rubino's where incredibly slippery, even on dry roads, in the corners.

    Same experience here.

Never had an issue with 25mm gatorskins when they first came out, apart from them squaring off a bit quickly (and only £11 each).

Another vote for Vredestien Fortezza - has anyone got experience of standard Fortezzas versus the Tricomp?

Oh, and you can increase the puncture proofness of your tyres by looking where the fuck you're going, and not riding in the gutter ;-)

  • Blizzard sports are nice, i only bought them cos they were blue, but they're pretty resilient. Outlasted 2 pairs of innertubes. but that was mainly my fault, first set were old, second set i snapped the rimtape changing them then completely forgot to replace it. Couple of impressive blowouts as a result! still going strong now.

  • Hi everyone,

Firstly i just wanna say hello as this is my first real post and also how great i think you guys and this forum are! What a wealth of information and expertise and loads of humour to!

Anyways everytime i ride and do skids etc etc i seem to get a puncture on my back wheel. obvioulsy this is really annoying especially if im just off to the shops or whatever. Just wondering wether you could give any advice on what i could do to stop this?? i thought maybe put a more off road touring tire on or something anyway i dno any help would be much appreciated cheers!! (im currently got a michelin dynamic tire on their if thats any help)

ALSO i would post a picture of my bike but i cant work out how to put pictures in lol. Sorry!

thanks for all the stuff you put on and keep riding!!!

    pat

  • stop riding your bike.

  • gatorskin, and careful with ratios.

  • Welcome, Pat.

Are you getting punctures in the same place on the inner tube? If so, could be a piece of sharp material on inside the tyre, or a sharp edge on the inside of the rim that hasn't been covered sufficiently with rim tape.

Are you tyres pumped up high enough? For me, 120psi is the perfect compromise between comfort, speed and puncture protection.

It's difficult to recommend a specific tyre. I use Gatorskins and think they're great. Others think they're terrible. I've had only one or two flats in the last 4/5 months. I hate Vitorria rubinos (tread had lots of little tears and lots of punctures), yet I know some people on here like them.

  • stop riding my bike- lol thats what my mum said (im 16) cool yeah my freind whos a roadie rides gaorskins and loves them might have to invest thanks!
