  • what the fuck is going on? i've had three in a month and haven't found anything in the tyre afterwards.

is there any mileage in changing tyres? (ho ho)

do presta valves give up on life for no reason? or if the tyres have too much air?
why is the sky blue? why is water red? why did judas rat to romans while jesus slept?

    any advice?

  • its the devil's work... ( the judas bit...and I am pretty sure punctures are his work too...)

  • get some stronger tyres, with kevlar bits in them.

there are a few threads kicking around on peoples' favourite tyre choices. i use Gatorskins and my puncture rate has dropped to almost nothing.

  • Stop riding through glass.

  • any advice?

Stop listening to Liquid Swords while pumping up your tires.

More info, are you matching puncture to tire position on inspection? What are you pumping tires up to vs. rating? What tires do you have? Which wheel do the punctures happen on?

  • Pinch flats? Are you hitting pot holes, or kerbs?

  • keep them pumped up to 110 +

  • Yeah we need details..

    Make of tyre
    Age of tyre
    Tyre pressure
    Type of puncture
    Location of puncture

    DETAILS!

  • bold thread title, good work.

  • Weight of rider
    Tubeset
    Riding style
    Pedalling style
    Pedal + Shoe choice
Cornering angle (if cornering when puncture occurred)

Without these things, we can't help. We just don't know what the circumstances were.

  • And were you carrying anything? Anyone?
And your weight, is it over the front wheel? Or back? And which wheel were the punctures on dagnammit?

We have nothing, zilch to go on.

So you think you've got punctures. Let me tell you about punctures.

  • First and foremost, never, ever, EVER say or type the P word.

You will be guaranteed more if you mention or type p_nct_res in its fullness.

  • hippy recommends continentals as well ;)

  • Yep..

  • The idea is you put the noodles between the tube and tyre, and when you get a puncture the release of air pressure makes the noodles rush towards where the hole is and block it up, noodley style.

    Pretty effective I understand.

  • The 'p' word derives from the phrase "punch air". This describes the practice of striking the hole with your fist where the air is escaping. The air molecules, pacifist by nature, then hide inside the hole, fearful of being beaten, and the inner tube or tub stays inflated.

  • Do you have a rim tape in your wheel?

  • If not, use noodles.

fuck, you really need to get a job!!

  • I'd rather be a tyre-puncher than a tyre-kicker any day.

  • Stop riding through glass.

    +1
Shit, friday i hit a broken bottle, got two big cuts in my beautiful - and i think quite rare - full red Vittoria Open Pro CX - effectively killing it :(

  • old tyres, i think i hit a kerb. not hard. tyre pressurearound 100 psi. rider mass (note not weight) 65-70 kilos, old michelin - can't vouch for age. prob. need new ones. mm.

  • ItT would seem that noodles is where its at.

  • More anecdotal evidence...

I got through two pairs of Gatorskins in six months last year, and by the time they wore out, they were p*ncturing almost every day. I eventually replaced them with Armadillos, which finally wore out last night (after about 8 months), and never p*nctured the entire time I had them. The only reason I replaced them was that the rubber had completely worn out and was starting to hang off the Kevlar! I idly checked them for holes when I changed them, and found loads of shards of glass that must have been there for months, but never made it through to the inner tube.

So Armadillos rock - although I'm sure there are just as many people who will swear otherwise, and that this will vary depending on weight of rider, cornering habits, etc....

  • +1 to the 'dillos
