Whilst I could send this to Mercian/Argos etc and get a really nice finish my issue is cost.
I'm not saying that they charge an unreasonable amount, just that the frame that I wish to use is not worth a paint job that, tbh, is worth £150 more than the frame that it is put on.Which is why I am casting around trying to find the cheapest way of doing this well.
If anyone could recomend someone who could do this then please speak up?

if the frame is in good condition?
You could get it powdercoated white the do the rest yourself, if it's a cheap frame and if it works well then try it in the future with a nicer frame when you have more money -

This was the route that I was going to go- until I spoke to Duncan at Armourtex and he said that it would have to be a Polyurethane paint over powdercoat, as nothing else would stick.
i.e. I would need a proper mask, a ventilated area etc- unless I took a big dose of HTFU and spat the paint over the frame, naked, whilst smoking...

me 2p:
I would suggest a title by HG Wells, who was quoted as saying that he '... had hope for the future of humankind when I see someone riding a bicycle' or some such. And he was a fuckin don.
Mind at the End of Its Tether
The Time Machine
The Wheels of Chance
The Lord of the Dynamos
The World Set Free
The Kingdom of The Blind -

I think (bearing in mind the value of the frame) that I am going to attempt to DIY this.
Hopefully if I take my time it will come out nicely/ok.
Would masking tape be the best thing to mask the frame/threads etc with, or is there a wonder material which I am unfamiliar with? -

I think the best approach would be to paint the whole bike orange, then put cream/white vinyl (which is gonna be just a few straight-edged bands, right?), and your cut lettering, over the top and then laquer about fifteen times.
Or am I talking rot? I'm just guessing.

+1 for getting this done properly.
if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well..

Might be thinking of doing this again.
Currently considering getting the frame powdercoated orange at Armortex, then applyign white vinyl panels, plus the little penguin logo, and also the "Title and Author", when I decide what they will be.
Arty people- will white vinyl panels look completely rubbish, i.e. let the orange colour through?
If so then I'll swallow the cost of painting it.
Opinions please.

Problems with the Koga then?
-
• #112
I suspect that it would be too small, also Bike_Magic don't seem to give a damn about selling me the Koga, plus there would seem to be doubts about their longevity.
It comes down to:
1) Buy a 2007 frame with both physical and cosmetic imperfections from a shop that does not seem to want to sell it
or
2) Buy a 2008, factory fresh, from a shop that are very keen, have gone out of their way to help (I was test riding 58cm vs 61cm at eight this morning with them), and is fully built and warranteed. Just the wrong colour.

Right choice then! And you get to keep the avatar.

Flickwg has been busy with another design iteration:
I think I've settled on HG Wells The time machine as the author/book, unless anyone has a better suggestion?
-
• #115
HG Wells could have been a frame builder but Somerset Maugham and Agatha
Christie definitely are not. -
• #116
I was thinking HG Wells on the seat tube, and The time machine (should all words be capitalised?) on the down tube, maybe with the downtube white area being a more traditional solid panel, rather than the curved shape that it is in the design above.

Sadly Sam Fish would appear to have had to hang up his spray guns, so I am looking for another local painting person- anyone have any suggestions?
Also does anyone know what this font is?

Also does anyone know what this font is
It's Gill Sans; favourite of photographers the world over.

Valid point, well made- I shall save lmgtfy for future use.

Now vacilating about whether to go for the traditional orange or possibly yellow:
Hmm, that picture does not work.

Neither does this one.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
