Some, any or all- could be a single thing.
Needs to have been the title of a Penguin book.

Ah, don't forget that orange was only for novels. Green was for crime, fiction and non fiction, light blue was for science , philosophy history etc , travel was scarlet and I think ldark blue was biography. Though I am sure some will tell me if I am wrong
So your could do the "Worst Journey in the World " in scarlet and white or the "Big Sleep" in green and white.
At SwimTwo Birds was once a penguin, though I don't think the Third Police man ever was. -

I still preferred Death of a Salesman

Here's the original 30's colour scheme.
The colour schemes included: orange and white for general fiction, green and white for crime fiction, cerise and white for travel and adventure, dark blue and white for biographies, yellow and white for miscellaneous, red and white for drama; and the rarer purple and white for [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Essays"]essays[/ame] and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belles_lettres"]belles lettres[/ame] and grey and white for world affairs. Lane actively resisted the introduction of cover images for several years. Some recent publications of literature from that time have duplicated the original look.
Pelicans were in blue and white- that was the general non fiction list

The time machine, HG Wells
this, clearly.
Or maybe Dorian Grey; somewhere there's a bike getting ugly in an attic somewhere....

I keep coming back to the Time Machine, even though it's a bit cheesy.
I quite like the Dorian Grey title though, possibly due to getting older.

What an excellent article. Some fascinating tidbits of info about the Pelican series. Far more aesthetically pleasing than the Dummies guides too.
Particularly liked the description of one of the original editors in regard to the series' success:
"This despite, or because of, the fact that the co-founding editor of the series, VK Krishna Menon, was a staunch socialist and teetotal vegetarian who drank 100 cups of tea a day and slept for only two hours a night."
