  • I'm going to get one of those hi vis jackets that almost looks like a police jacket and stand around correcting the real police's shitty advice.

  • enjoy prison lol!

  • no cops in east london.

they seem to be targeting the junctions used by cyclists.

  • i am all for increased policing of the roads.

but the targets should be those causing the danger not those who cause little.

  • I was stopped this morning for cycling with my lights on during day light.

Did they say why this was a bad idea? Genious at work.

  • So we should encourage illegal drivers in order to reduce traffic speeds?

    don't be daft.

  • I ride with lights on all the time. Same as motorcycles are recommended to do.

    Fucking stupid cop cunts.

  • When I rolled up to Union St/Blackfriars this morning, tons of flouro cops everywhere, the light had just changed against me. I know the phase of the light will keep me there for about 60 secs, including a generous ped phase with countdown clocks. Dismounted and walked across, a la Crank vs Brooks. I know it looks stupid but I somehow like the feeling.

  • I've got no time for this. Police officers (most of whom have never cycled in London) telling commuter cyclists how to behave. The same police who are deliberately not enforcing 20mph speed limits.

Reminds me of the chaplains who stand in city centres in the early hours of Saturday morning trying to explain to clubbers why sex, drugs and excess drinking are a bad idea.

  • Interesting:

Maybe have a word with this Servo driver? Oh you haven't noticed because you're texting.

  • don't be daft.

Then your post sense makes none, innit?

  • I'm going to get one of those hi vis jackets that almost looks like a police jacket and stand around correcting the real police's shitty advice.

    Be polite

  • I was stopped this morning for cycling with my lights on during day light… stupid use of police time. No useful advice on how to cycle safely at all. People cycling up the inside of buses at junctions where theyare stopping people for listening to headphones. What a waste.

When I challenged him if it was illegal his response was that he didn't know and was just there to offer safety advice.

Hey? How is it unsafe to have them on during the day? Was he stopping Volvo drivers too?

That's a really odd reason to stop somone.

  • ... The same police who are deliberately not enforcing 20mph speed limits.

    ...

Wow, they actually just blatantly admit to this. I observe them in my car, and get some proper irate drivers behind me.

  • Don't all new cars now come with 'always on' daytime lights anyway? What's the difference here?

  • I generally have my lights on all the time too, got the habit from riding motorbikes. Seems daft to advise against active visibility and then promote passive visibility (hi-vis).

  • They're bored as hell and making stuff up. "It's a Monday, green bikes are illegal, I don't make the rules sir".

  • This whole policing action does seem to be one massive pisstake- are we sure they aren't trolling cyclists deliberately, and they'll do the same to motorists tomorrow?

  • cant wait for the stats and all those involved can give themselves a good pat on the back and say how many lives they saved and how much revenue was created.

Tomorrow let's target those who havent tied their shoe laces or those running on wet surfaces coz they might slip n fall.

Im not the smartest person in the world by a long way but I do somewhat find this city insulting to my limited intelligence.

  • Advice being freely given to commuters north end of Chelsea Bridge at the moment. Take care peeps, and wear your hi-viz.

  • I have some sympathy for rank and file plod. I'm sure they's rather be doing some proper police work rather than standing in the cold offering advice to cyclists.

I can just imagine the moans and eye rolls as the duty Sargent told them what the days duties would be..

In fact I'd rather the 2000 odd officers were doing some proper police work

  • Yeah, but a morning in the fresh air makes a nice change from beating up suspects and fabricating evidence.

  • Also bear in mind a lot of those coppers standing out there freezing their bollocks off today will be specials. Volunteers who are doing it out of the goodness of their heart/trying to become regulars. So not quite as much of a drain on your taxes as you might first think.

  • Bless the Hobbycop
