Been there myself, we had some series in recent years where we really should have won, but for the inability to take 20 wickets in time.
SA should really be wondering why it took until the last hour to strike, Eng should be looking at bringing in a 5th bowler.
I think the teams are evenly matched, with SA seamers being more dangerous than ours on a good day, but it's not always a good day.
But swan is a lot better (well more on form) than Harris.

Yes, but it doesn't stop harris taking wickets. They also have duminy...
Our bowling weakness has only really shown on that 3rd day, in the hot sun where we toiled fruitlessly whilst Smith took the game away.
Swann is without doubt (so far) the player of the series, but I'm bored of Anderson, he never seems to do anything yet is a permanent fixture, he was our leading wicket taker in this match, which shows how poor the others were.

you were right earlier - give petersen a rest and try a 5th bowler.
even if it is temporary, a bit of competition for that extra spot will be helpful. -

It's time for England to drop Pietersen, they rely on him but time and again he fails to deliver, he's good for one day and 20/20 but he's too much of a one trick pony for test cricket.

Won't happen though will it?
We'll go to Joburg with the same tired old team. and probably lose.

I just clapped England's draw.. wtf?

Isn't he something like the 3rd youngest England bowler to take 150 wickets? I think he's good enough, but should be the worst of the three quickies/seamers not the best.
I think we really miss someone like hoggard, someone that can run in all day and stick it on the same spot ball after ball and build on the pressure, maybe not glamorous but priceless in test matches.

I disagree to a certain extent, aren't Onions, Anderson, Broad and Sidebottom all fast/mediums who try to swing the ball? what we are lacking is sheer pace and aggression, someone who can bowl fast and hit the deck, Freddie and Harmy have gone now and we don't have that option any more. They keep trying to turn Broad into this, but he simply isn't that kind of bowler. A strike bowler that not only creates pressure (think Flintoff to Ponting 2005) but can also finish off a tail, something that both Eng. and SA have trouble doing at the moment.

I don't think any of them are as consistent as Hoggard, too much variation which lets up on the pressure.
Broas seems to want to do too much, trying something different every ball, but he's still got time on his side to develope and improve. As for true fast bolwers, that is something cricket in general is missing.

Major facelpalm... 4 down already.
Collingwood and Bell are going to have to bat for another two days to save it at this rate.

• #122
Says it's overcast and all that on TMS. Best hope it's a low scoring wicket, so that we're on par as it were
-
• #123
do you think south africa will manage to take 20 wickets in a match? only it's been beyond them so far.
i wouldn't worry about batting all day, wouldn't be surprised if it's all over in a couple of days with a win and no draw -

If conditions favour them, steyn and morkel might find their stride. 4 for 100 looks like that might be the case
edit: colly caught

Oh dear, England in trouble here.
Looks like a result wicket and I think SA have the upper hand being used to the altitude there and the fact that they need to win to level the series
must not bite, must not bite
