Hard to argue with a decent riot to prove how vibrant an area is, and it's got the tube...
-
• #1003
I wouldn't want to live anywhere the locals don't care enough about to riot over...

You should have seen it here when the farmers market ran out of Pheasants, decidedly rambunctious

anyone know where can I buy some cheap curtains in Brixton? Summer is upon us and the curtains in the living room are too thick... Mum bought some for me from East Street market a couple of years ago for £13 a pair... can't find the shop anymore...

Check the market and if no luck, Argos?

Measure your curtains and figure out what size you'll need, buy some material from one of the African places on Atlantic Road/Market Row/Granville Arcade, take to the Somalian seamstress lady in Reliance Arcade and she'll turn them into curtains for you... Job done...
You're probably talking £30-£50 all in... Very rough estimate...

Argus does curtain liners / blackouts too.

^ Might be cheaper...
You could also try that little used clothing store opposite the old car park/skating rink on Station Road, they might have some used curtains for cheap... Or the charity shops?

Maybe my mum lied to me about £13 a pair... Maybe she was just being Mum... Argos was the first place I looked and they are not that cheap and would rather get them from a local shop if possible... African places it is then. Thanks.

She probably wasn't lying, just bought them there thirty years ago or so. :)
That, or she really knows how to haggle ...

It was only a couple of years ago, and man they are actually very nice curtains... don't know I didn't think of getting some for the living room then...

Why do you need lighter curtains? #justsayin
-
• #1016
Bring more light into the room, the window on the far left never gets opened and because of the bike stand and bikes and generally crap that gets stored at that corner, opening and closing the curtains is a bit annoying...
It's bright enough in the bedroom on a day like today even without opening the curtains... That's what I want.

Anyone lived, or know someone who lives in Herne Hill House or Park View House?
Just saw a flat there* and was more tempted than I thought I was going to be, given that the last Park View house flat I went into was a skunk factory.
Much bigger and brighter and way in budget, and even had bike storage x4. But the place is almost impossible to google for anyone's opinions, and the only news articles are about the subsequent raiding of the farm.

Anyone got any local builders to recommend?
Need to get a door knocked through an external wall to hopefully put some steps down to the garden and maybe get the kitchen redone whilst they are there. -

I could ask my mate Daniel who drinks in the Effra, he's local and does a lot of work in the area, PM me if you want his digits... Otherwise, I know Markyboy has a few reliable contacts...

As I'm here, anyone got any leads for rooms to rent? We've just been told our house is being sold end of June. Want to stay in the area so would be keen for any biek friendly places :)

They've been really good. We're crofton park, but I think they'd work all over.
You might have to wait a couple of weeks because they've got to finish my house first! but PM me if you want their details.

@snowy are they the two low rise ones opposite the lido? I know someone who lived there and loved it. Apparently they are cheap since you can't get mortgages on them due to some building material issue.

Need to get a door knocked through an external wall to hopefully put some steps down to the garden and maybe get the kitchen redone whilst they are there. We had a Polish guy from Dulwich do some work for us - very good and great price too. Everything is arranged via his wife so if you need a number PM me
Nah it won't be that bad. They've already tried to arrest Lee Jasper.
