• Here's to another year of sweet sweets kids.

    .

  • You can also buy them from Evans now;

    http://www.evanscycles.com/brands/dzr

Are they paying you for that shameless plug?

Question: Are the owners of the broken DZRs brakless, and the has anyone with a front brake had a pair bust on them?

  • heal in my dzr came undone... but they got replaced

  • Anyone want to buy some size 11 chromes?

Possibly. Got any photos, and how much?

  • I wear these because I'm a badass.

Not as cool as Chromes, perhaps, but they look a lot less orthopaedic than the Vans ones.

    Comfortable enough and cheap too.

  • blimey, they used to be about 70 quid.
they are damn comfy, don't last too long though, the sole wears down pretty quickly.

  • That'd make more sense, £40 more isn't a huge jump.

  • Caz, Dimi and Dom all ride brakless, bound to cause the sole to unbond quicker

You're right, but I have Vans and Shimano shoes and I never had any problems with them. Actually Vans feel a lot better then any other spd/atac shoes, the only problem is that a cleat touching the ground when I walk, hence buying DZRs. Also laces ripped in 6 different places.

Anyway, I've emailed AlwaysRiding about this problem and they've sent me a replacement pair. Always Riding staff are just too good. Mad respect, yo.

  • Oh and DZRs definitely are SPD shoes, not quite designed for Time Atacs. Atacs have a bigger platform, I had to cut bits on both sides from cleat to prevent soles from rubbing pedals.

  • You sure? I've ridden mine with ATAC and was fine.

  • How can I be not sure if I did cut both soles with a sharp fucking knife?

  • I can confirm this. With ATACs I also had to trim off additional rubber around the cleat recess in the sole before the shoe would would engage properly with the pedal.

They would still clip in before I trimmed them (probably securely enough for normal use with brakes) but it was definitely with more of a dull "thud" than a crisp "snap". You could even see if you clipped in the shoe in and flipped the pedal over to take a look – the rubber of sole was getting in the way and stopping the pedal from fully clipping in. I ride brakeless and I experienced too many scary unclips and almost binned the shoes for fear of death. However, since I trimmed the sole back they are perfect – pedals lock in with a loud, crisp snap and feel much more secure. No more unclips in the past 5 months.

It sucks having to take a Stanley knife to a pair of almost £100 shoes though!

  • I also chopped a bit off the edge of the soles around the cleat area.
Always Riding are my favorite online shop by a long way now.

  • They would still clip in before I trimmed them (probably securely enough for normal use with brakes) but it was definitely with more of a dull "thud" than a crisp "snap".

That I definitely notice, I didn't concur this to be a problem since it's a weak flexy shoes in the first place.

  • it's the sole coming in to contact with the metal springs and stopping the cleat sitting in fully. Nothing to do with stiffness of it.

  • No more unclips in the past 5 months.

You mean to say you've been clipped into your pedals for the past 5 months? Your bum must be very saddle sore....

  • Possibly. Got any photos, and how much?

Bon0R has first dibs but if it falls through i'll let you know

  • I've got these for sale for the next 6 days, need to send em back to the supplier after that...

  • yeh, in blue from BLB (Mikey5000 has them in black), paid far less than £135 though,
    found them really comfortable,
    although not so good with straps (!) - nor in the wet - good summer shoe (in colour) for use with a racer perhaps (didn't try out the clip thingie);

have since switched to Vans skate shoes, which are fine really, but would prefer a cycle shoe; found the Chrome shoes a little stiff and tight fitting.. might give em another re-try.. heard that they wear-in..

    Zzz

This seems very cool, anyone got one?

  • ^ Yes very pleased with these. Comfortable, stiff and light but perforations not so suited to cold and wet. Also - not great 'all day' shoes - not enough flex for wandering about - fine for the pub/ cafe though.

  • I converted a pair of vans chukka lows to SPD about a month ago, it's a crude first attempt but cleet positioning is spot on.
Not too much wear on the shoes (some is visible but mostly due to riding riding clips and straps on those shoes for months before converting)

  • Is this a common problem with DZR shoes? Had to send mine back and sadly no DZR replacement for me - no stock till March. Went for some Chrome instead. Has anyone had the same problem? I have seen dimi3 had this problem, anyone else? Thinking if it's worth investing in another pair when the new stocks are in.

  • Yep, they'll never be as durable or stiff as normal MTB shoes unfortunately.

IMHO, not worth investing in another pairs, especially if you got the Chrome.
