Thought about using glue, but only just thrown away some... sod's law. Besides, my out of shoes period, now, coincide with my not fit to cycle aka bloody annoying period. So out of shoes is probably good to prevent me from getting onto my bike...

After that problem with DZR I switched completely to proper road / mtb cycling shoes.

Yeah, mine are falling to bits. A shame as I love everything about them apart from the quality. I have shoe goo, but have not got round to fixing them yet.

I have been wearing proper cycling shoes for years when commuting, only last Oct I decided to get to these urban shoes because I thought they are nicer to walk on, and that's debatable. I am just lazy to keep changing shoes when I am at work, at the studio.
I think I will just switch back to proper cycling shoes after my Chrome. My specialized have had about 4 years worth of abuse and still has some life left...

I've got this NorthWave winter waterproof shoes and they're the best winter shoes I've ever had. My feet are always dry and warm. Not a problem to walk in them, wouldn't want to walk a marathon distance wearing them though. What size are you? Would you like to buy my DZRs? :)
-
• #632
are you talking to me? I would love to buy your DZR, but I think I will give Chrome a chance, it's only fair to spread my love. :-P
Do you mean the Northwave Gore-Tex ones? I heard they are good, but are they a little too warm if wear them indoor all day?
-
• #633
yes, them ones. don't think it'll be good for your feet.
-
• #634
I like my chromes although once your feet get cold they absolutely freeze
-
• #635
smelly feet?
I put some overshoes on my DZR the other day and although it looked weird, they kept my feet warm.

I still swear by these, uglier than DZR's but theyre warm as hell with some thick socks, ive soaked them in pouring rain and still had relatively dry feet, sole is holding strong after 6 months or so

sent an email to DZR with regards to the quality of the shoes and the stortage of supplies in the UK as a friendly comment, as Urban Cyclery was taking care of the matter anyway. The guys at DZR are taking this seriously and now they are delivering a brand new pair of like to like replacement to London to me in a couple of week. Well I think they are coming to London anyway, last time I checked, I wasn't that important, but they were going to post them from the states anyway. A phone call to DZR, now I am a happy customer again. The gent I spoke to on the phone was really helpful.

What did they say about the issues of quality?
-
• #639
erm... they didn't actually say anything. To be honest, I didn't get a reply from them through email until I called them and because my International sim card was running low in credit, I only mentioned I wanted to get my shoes sorted.

No difference to how they handle my DZR 2 years ago, quality still suck.
Unless they have actually improved it, which is very doubtful.
-
• #641
Replacing is all well and good, but they should really be working to stop it happening in the first place!
-
• #642
I've been wearing my DZR's pretty much everyday since about October and have had no problems - admitedly I don't ride brakeless but still give the shoes some grief.
Would deffo buy a pair again but seems I'm the exception to the rule though!

^ I ride a freewheel due to my poor injured knee and due to other problems and work being about only 3 miles away from home, the mileage I had put in since I got the shoes has been very little. I do walk about in them all day in the office though. I would say my DZR are in pretty good condition overall, except the soles unbonded of course. I shall wait and see if the replacement will be any better. I wish they would just post them to me...

Lot of bedwetting going on in this and other clothing threads
Alot of this depends on what you want from a shoe, and how much you pay for it. The DZR's arent supposed to be fit and forget and designed to outlast you, if they were people would complain about the price.
I've got a pair of ovis' had them over two years, sole unbonded on one side, cracked the other sole base plate in two, but I still like them and would buy another pair. If you have issues with the build quality speak first to the shop you bought them from and then if that response isn't good enough go straight to source..
They aren't as far as I know promoted as bombproof cycling shoes, just as a recreational cycling shoe that looks good, that you can walk in and don't make you look like douche when off the bike, that they don't meet upto the exacting requirements of many here doesn't make them a bad shoe or manufacturer, and since most of the alternatives mooted look gash in comparison they still rate highly in my opinion..
I'm going to try some of the chrome midway pro's as they look like a good alternative and the new DZR H2O's look real nice as well.. And it's time someone tried to make a more casual shoe that was more water resistant than current models..

^ that's why I have gone round the block and decided to insist on a like to like replacement. Don't get me wrong, my boyfriend has the Chrome Midway pro and he loves it, and that's the replacement I was offered by the shop over here, but it it's just not my no.1 choice. The look of the shoes come 1st and for me, DZR is by far the winner, but this is juts my personal opinion.
I have been tempted by the H2O for a while now. Any idea where I can get a 40? The smallest always riding has is 41. And if I were to get from DZR directly it'd be about £50 postage + tax, which makes them really rather expensive.
-
• #646
And nope, they don't have 40... smallest is 41...
-
• #647
I agree with you mostly corny, but people are complaining about out the breaking after 3 months, not two years.
-
• #648
not quite casual but could pass for a non cyclist shoe. Too bad that the affordable version is not black :-/

Same, been wearing mine every day since September (excluding last week when I got public transport) and they're still holding up fine. No sole unbonding or nowt. I love them.

I can confirm this. With ATACs I also had to trim off additional rubber around the cleat recess in the sole before the shoe would would engage properly with the pedal.
Oh and DZRs definitely are SPD shoes, not quite designed for Time Atacs. Atacs have a bigger platform, I had to cut bits on both sides from cleat to prevent soles from rubbing pedals.
What model did you guys have to trim? Anyone know if the chrome midways accept time cleats?
Also I saw reviews of the chrome kursks and people were saying that the heel was too low on the back, did anyone on here find that to be the case, and is it a problem
Was much better about 15 years ago when the fumes would nearly kill you but it meant you got a few months instead of a few weeks out of a pair of cheap skates shoes. Surely that'd get the job done?
