Just been asked by a friend for recommendations for bargainous SPD shoes. No need for casual appearance as per the thread, just wanted a place to put the question.
Anyone know any deals for SPD shoes?

Just pulled the trigger on some DZR Mamba's from UC. Thought I'd join the cool kids with their clipless kicks.
Actually, I've just got annoyed having to swap shoes around at work and looking a bit foolish when I clipping around in my Shimanos. Plus, I'm wearing less Rapha stuff these days, so I need some more "urban" shoes.

yea I took the plunge for similar reason, those shoes cant be as stiff as dedicated cycling shoes though, eventually sold on the forum

my kursks are stiffer than my shimano (mtb) shoes.

I've had my DZRs for about 5 months and they haven't seen much use (a couple of rides a week perhaps). They're holding up okay but I've had to glue the plates back on to the soles a few times.
However, these are Caz's after two months:
Dimi3 has had his for two months as well and they're well on their way to that.

Push down on the back foot more during epic skids innit.

…or stick that leg over the bars

Too much power!
*Haven't Sumo's homemade joints lasted at least 2 years now?
-

Isn't henry's commute like half a mile though, probably only works out as a weeks worth of normal use.
-

Yeah, but if you factor in his epic skids and the amount of ass he kicks it evens out. Sumo will literally put his foot all up in yo' ass...up to the knee

DZR's (the tosca's at least) are poorly made, Fugly as hell and uncomfortable to walk in.
Worst £100 I ever spent - a great idea terribly executed. at least they're £30 cheaper now. I cut out the midsole and modified some trainers myself.

DZR > Chrome.

It's worth getting in touch with DZR to let them know, they're a nice bunch.
If they don't know there's a flaw then they can't fix it.
Plus I'm sure they'd replace them.
My Prolly shoes are holding up well. -

Anyone want to buy some size 11 chromes?

my home made Nike's are still going. The stiff inner sole has come unglued so I have to do the laces up really tight, I want to rivet them back together or use massive staples or something. Saying that, I've bought some DZR Minna's as Scoot's have lasted fine. I really like them so far, but if they fall apart like the photo up there ^ I will just go back to the Nike's.

It's very weird how hit and miss they seem to be. Neither of my DZR's have fallen apart and I did a year of commuting to college (10 miles a day, 5 days a week, for 8 months) in my Tosca's and they held up fine, and my Link hi-tops (the same as Caz's) are also fine after two months of the same. It's not like I'm a really gentle rider either!

Caz, Dimi and Dom all ride brakless, bound to cause the sole to unbond quicker
-
• #597
Mine are coming unglued too.
I did buy some shoe glue but haven't actually tried a repair job yet. -

I was going to try DZRs when I really wear out the soles on my Chromes (from walking) but I think I'll steer clear after seeing all this.

You can also buy them from Evans now;

My Chrome Kursks cracked two weeks ago, after just over a years worth of everyday use, I am really happy with them, they are now relegated to polo shoes and my Chrome Midways have just turned up which are even more comfy than the Kursks! Here's to another year of sweet sweet skids.
Fair, I think every should be allowed one shameless plug.
