  • The chainrings are gunmetal and match the 7800 finish better than the silver finish of the 5700

There's that, but they do the rings in black which would go nicely with the black 5700s

  • They do. But they don't say 'Dura Ace'. And I tend to ride with a duck-footed stance, so I'd rub off the black finish on the 5700 cranks, just like I have on the black XT cranks on my 29er. And have I mentioned that the 7800 cranks say 'Dura Ace' on them yet? #allthegearnoidea

  • You'll rub the dura-aceness off too, leaving it looking like humble 5600 and women will never look at you that way again.

  • What, a look of mute incomprehension and haughty derision? I can live with that.

  • I'm usually happy if I get that, at least they looked... :P

  • 25.8 seatpost, one in situ is 26, if i use the 25.8, can I expect a lot of slippage if un shimmed?

  • too deep a question ?

  • I unwittingly had a 27mm seatpost in a 27.2mm frame and I couldn't get it slip-free without fierce overtightening. I wouldnt recommend it.

  • great, cheers!

  • So, upon the arrival of spring I thought I'd treat the winter bike to a new chain and inner cables. But then I thought I'd splash out on rings too. And maybe a cassette. Which then turned into a bit of a complete rebuild. New headset, BB, cables, seat post, seat collar, wheels, skewers, tyres, chain, cassette, rings, pedals, brake pads, bar tape, a switch from 105 to Rival, de-striping of the stem and a mirror like polish to the frame later, and here we are.

Have to say, not liking SRAM so far, though I'm yet to do a proper ride on it. Feels like the shift lever should have it's motion constrained to just left/right. As it is, it feels like it's wobbling all over when I'm trying to shift.

  • Looks fantastic

  • Yup, really lovely and pretty much what my road bike will be like with any luck.

  • agreed, a fine build

  • That's your winter bike?! Gorgeous, but we need to see the summer bike now....

  • Is that your Mistral Sanddancer? Looks stunning. Puts my scruffy thing to shame! Did you polish the frame yourself?

You'll get used to it, thousands have before you.

  • The mismatched hubs match the fork ends nicely ;-)

  • How did you get your Ti so shiny?

Just a hand job or something more exciting?

  • Haaa rep.

  • Mudguards are to follow. Not decided on which will work best for my needs yet.

Yeah, it's my Van Nicholas Mistral. Gave it a quick going over with an Aldi buffing pad thing that goes in a drill and then a wipe down with Autosol.

I hope I do get used to the SRAM. I think part of the issue may be poor set up made worse by dodgy cabling. Got Flying Snake on there, part of the winter bike thing, but I think it's got a lot of drag on the rear mech.

  • ^very nice! are they mavic rims?

has anyone seen the gold TB14s in the flesh? do they look as good as the mavic or do they look a bit... naff?

  • Awesome! All of it!

  • Cleanup, new bartape, freewheel and a new set of Mavic rims.

  • Best bike yet Gaston. Love it.
