I never ride my deep sections any more anyway so it's a bit moot. Should probably sell them at some point.
-
• #93603
Maybe I should just buy some 25c tyres before writing the wheels off completely.
-
• #93604
I would. Might seem like a false economy for a cheap wheelset but buy something nice like a pave 25mm and then make a decision. Correct tyre size and choice makes more difference that pretty much anything else.
Also Jake, it's a road bike - they are not supposed to be plush and squishy :) You may also need to apply a little HTFU paste to your chamois.

Good shout.
I've not ridden anything smaller than 28c for a good 8 months. I just need to get used to skinny tyres again :-)

This ^
Jake, make your legs hurt more and you'll forget all about your tyre/rim combo.

Open Pave's come in 27! I wonder if the Cannondale forks can clear them...
Read a couple of reviews and they sound great though.

• #93608
They probably will.
Just. -

25's are fine! Honestly!

Best tyres out there IMO. Basically a race tyre with puncture protection, and loads of grip in the wet (unlike Corsa's), for a pretty minimal weight penalty.

But Dan, Surrey roads! Unbelievably bad around me now.
-

Same in Kent. 25's are fine - you are young. Man up!
There's a big difference in comfort between running a 320tpi race tyre in 25mm and a cheapo tyre in 25mm.

You could run Rubino's in 32 and they'd still be a harsh piece of shit.

28's should fit jake, i got large 25's in fine with a fair bit of clearance, but everyone's right, htfu! I ride the same roads and I'm fine, tbh for some reason I get away with running my 25's quite low on pressure.
Also though, wasn't this meant to be the fast bike, the pro's (aka the fastest) are all on 25's, get 25's :)

I'm fat and ran 24c grand prix on open pro at +/-90 with great results

Very much this.
stiff sidewall also can >>>>>>>>>>>>
I've got a23's.. so not exactly a comprehensive review. Seem to dull the ride a bit and make brake setup a bit more of a pain in the arse.
Oh God, they're annoyingly small, it took me forever to aligned the canti perfectly, in the end I rode with Mavic A319 instead not worrying about brake pads wearing in touching the tyres.

It will.

I get what you're all saying, but why ride in medium comfort when I can ride in comfort on 27c without any noticeable change in rolling resistance? Also, I just like the feeling of riding a bigger tyre anyway.

Huh, and I'm using 28c Grand Bois on Archetypes, and still have to inflate them to 90/110psi.
I need to loose some weight...

Godamnit I've missed the Ergosum argument, can I try to stir it up again?

I've got those bars on my Cannondale. Can't be bothered to take a picture but they feel great on the tops and hoods. The drops could be a bit closer towards being parallel-to-the-ground but it's really not that much of a big deal in my view.

No.
I've got a23's.. so not exactly a comprehensive review. Seem to dull the ride a bit and make brake setup a bit more of a pain in the arse. They make the ride smoother (lower psi can probably account for that), but I don't really notice any difference handling-wise over an open pro and the brake surface isn't nearly as solid.
That said - my deep section wheels have a narrower rim and there is a difference there, but they have 23's on so it's hardly a level playing field.
