I was just mounting the front brake and couldn't get the recessed bolt tight enough for the caliper not to wiggle, so I kept tightening it... now it sits good, but on the way it made some creepy cracking noises, should I be worried? there is no cracks in lack, or inside of the crown...

ffs
Use a grip washer and put grease on the bolt threads. If you've cracked your fork you'll soon know about it.

Is it me or is the seat tube is extraordinary slack?
I thought the same, but it's probably a bit of distortion innit. Short wheelbase though.
That'll be a nice summer city bike.

cheers, if I cracked the MAX fork on my new frame I just might lose the will for cycling and working on bikes for at least a year.

Given I have this forum and the missing Pistoffski (where at?) to thank for this fine British steel (still up there with the best craft I have seen and ridden), update as it stands with new wald sitting precariously low and bars and practical things ladies tend to enjoy!
Don't doubt I'll borrow this for trips to the shops myself :)
Rip Ron, thanks mate, shit's good! -

Got a Retul bike fit tuesday morning and then thought a 40m debut ride was a good idea after forgetting to oil chain after cleaning... ouch.
On another topic, anyone know if running a 10spd cx top pull front mech will work ok with 6800 drivetrain?

Not sure that any number layers of Benotto style tape would feel more comfy.
Slip some old inner tubes on your bars or wrap with some cheap cork tape first?

Yes. Chances are the nut was too long, and you have bottomed it out on the brake's centre stud thread, or the stud is too long and you've crashed the stud threads into the hex socket in the nut. Either way, you now have some damaged threads on a safety critical part of your bike. Take it all apart, inspect to see what has gone wrong, replace anything which is deformed, and then assemble properly.
- Check that there is at least 6mm (6 full turns) of thread engagement, and at least 1mm of free thread on both the stud and the nut when everything is snugged up. If there is less thread engagement, get a longer nut. If there is less free thread, add a spacer between the caliper and the fork crown.
- Grease the threads
- Tighten to ~8Nm

That's the point. It was an abstract way of taking the piss out of Vince's analogy that ended saying the exact word.

Thanks for the proper advice, newbies have to learn out of their mistakes I guess. Will check the damage when I get back home.

Wrap it over a layer of cloth tape for some comfort.

Just got my first dibs safely, so I'll put £5 on this bike being mine by the end of a year :)
Sumo anymore pictures of this? The paint is amazing!

I'm currently building an old giant cadex as a bit of a runaround.
Hit a bit of a snag.
Do I need a different cable end for the rear section of cable that loops from the mount to the derailleur. I can't fit a standard cable end into the mount on the chainstay.
Here's a pic...

I'll take some better ones when I have put some nicer tyres on.

That's the description I was looking for!
I'll google it.
I'll post some pics of the bike later in case anyone's interested. It's nowt special mind. Bit of a parts bin number. -

this, and the cracking sound was the grip washer that fell apart as I unscrewed the nut, 2 decent grip washers should solve the problem, as all the threads seem fine.
I managed to fix the axles your way by borrowing the tools from the LBS (and braking one threading piece of kit, it was an old axle to try on so that was good, and the kit was just a cheap one, the guy from LBS pulled another one that went throught the axle like a knife through butter), got the campagnolo BB axle for the correct chainline in post and contrary to your advice (not because I wanted, but because it was simpler and faster) I built the rear
wheel with 2x double butted spokes and the front radial with plain gauge spokes (as soon as I have time/funds I will rebuild with proper spokes). Also waiting on a E-bay seller to get back from vacation to buy a 50t MDT chainring and I should be able to ride! Again thanks for your help, if you ever get the chance you earned yourself some beer/wine points in Austria/Croatia! :) -

Still needs little things doing (trim cable outers, change and align tyres are the main two) but rideable and I can't be bothered till I have more free time.
Running cables through the Integralters really really sucked, maybe this is the real reason they're mostly seen on brakless fixies. My neighbour asked me if everything was OK after all the shouting and swearing.
