Dat bike! Was the SLR a gel flow pre strip?
-

It was.
The padding came off easily in one piece so I could probably glue it back on if this is uncomfortable... -

They do look the part and they're not all that bad underneath a fleshy buttock, but my tea-leaves tell me it will be swapped out sharpish.

Cool saddle. I wouldnt cover it in leather. Clean look like this!

It is unexpectedly cool (I thought it'd be rough and ugly without work), I might find a cheap flite to recover instead.

How about the MKS Urban Step-In?
I use them on my Brompton.
They can be hard to find though.
I've got a pair of these (the Ezy version) spare. I need a bit more clearance now I'm running 650b wheels.
Bearings and threads are perfect but I've managed to grind off one of the grip pins. PM me if you're interested Phil.

I know the mech protector is period correct, but everyone I rode with avoided them as we thought it better to destroy a mech than the frame- which the protector would likely do in a prang.
-
• #91811
in my experience dropping a bike on the mech doesn't ruin the mech, but does bend the mech hanger

^ I have also experienced this.

i think is the second time you pointed this out, thanks again anyway

No problem, happy to do it again next time you post your bike.

Love that headtube

Steel frame though - easy enough to bend the hanger back into place. I know this for a fact - I've just had to bend the derailleur hanger back into line on Cycliste's Roberts after she grenaded the rear mech at L'Eroica. Given that derailleur hangers can be bent back into line fairly easily on steel frames, whereas rear derailleurs just explode in a shower of aluminium and plastic, I'd be more worried about the derailleur.

said hanger cage has only every been installed for period correct pictorial, i await different wheels hopefully, and will wrap the ds stay in a re used inner tube, wouldn't fancy taking it off road properly, as the bullets can slip with too much torque, that said, it;s a nice ride in town

which brakes are you running?
TRP Spyre's, the recalled new ones. Good but after using hydraulic on the MTB I'd love hydraulic disc's on this too...
That an ass saver? How do they actually do?
Well... If it's damp on the ground it works a treat. If it's pissing it down or you're out after a big shower it's relatively useless. Better then nothing though

The Shimano drop bar hydraulics are very, very good.

Why not fit a full Windsor on the back?
Have you got compressionless brake cable housing? Makes a massive difference.
-
• #91824
^ Yeah was contemplating getting one but the thing is if it throws it down on my commute I get soaked either way so the Ass Saver is good enough for the minute!
I didn't know there was such a thing tbh, need to change the rear cabling anyway so will investigate into that! Nice one TM!

Why not get raceblades?
I had a revelation while cooking and thinking about what saddle I could get - so, stripped a cutout slr, will test it on my tarck bike and cover in (fake) leather for my road bike if it's OK. Really pleased with how clean it came out without even smoothing/polishing it tho.
