  • Single 56 ring and a (nearly) straight through block...... Did the sloe gin numb the pain?

  • 13-23 but the shifter won't pull to bottom, so effectively 13-21.

Pleasantly surprised to find that I can cruise on 19 and 21, which leaves the straight through 13-17 for when I'm showing off.

Did hook up 56-13 on one occasion; not sure who was more terrified: me or the cars I overtook!

some years back a friend of mine put some 66t dinnerplate sized ring of an exercise bike breakless and fixed with a 14t rear. terrifying as hell,

  • What no 12? Lightweight! I remember when I could push that gear (downhill, tailwind) vaguely.

  • Jus' cruzin' bro, jus' cruzin'.

  • Nothing better than the Simplex Retrofriction.

  • Petersenist

  • ^^^So was I, as my little legs revolved once per lunar cycle....

^^Damn, that's twice I've had to agree with Ed this year!

    ^Whut?

  • That's one of my favourites of yours, Gaston. Great work.

  • ^Whut?

    Grant Petersen.

Basically calling me a luddite for not wanting an indexed drivetrain.

  • Arguably, Gippy "coke spoons" are as elegant; but functionally, SLJ are the best DTS ever.

And thanks to the Gaston's generosity, that's what my Ellis Briggs shifts with.

  • It's normal to help each over human being Jim.
    What's the seat tube diameter?

  • Lovely Peugeot!

It's all about 61/11 over on the timetriallingforum today

  • You use other forums?

Basically calling me a luddite for not wanting an indexed drivetrain.

And I admit that that knowledge implies the same about me.

This can now be applied liberally.

  • Love ; )

  • Would a Shimano UN52 bb work with the Sugino 75 cranks?

  • ^Probably not, the 75 BB in my lo-pro is ISO and UN52 are JIS, but sometimes you get lucky and the different tapers will work together.

  • Would a Shimano UN52 bb work with the Sugino 75 cranks?

    Get the UN55
Adjust by 2mm to account for the taper

    #testerunderinstruction

  • ^ boom!

Posted similar advice on Retrobike, you can imagine the response...

  • Dear gods, that's worse than fitting non-standard brake blocks, did anyone spontaneously combust?

Top advice, something useful for once!

  • Grant Petersen.

Basically calling me a luddite for not wanting an indexed drivetrain.

Petersen is widely known in the cycling community for opposing complicated design and slavish prioritization of speed, light weight and racing-led fashion — over tradition, **comfort **and durability.

'cause downtube/bar end shifters are so comfortable.

(their stance on clipless/cleats is also fucking lols)

  • tbh, im not sure in the whole taper debate if only taking an extra long axle would auffice.. i read somewhere* that the tapers differ marginally in angle. whilst it would work in the beginning, repeatedly installing/uninstalling on a diff taper would lead to a mangled crank.

ild buy centaur bb; problem solved.

    *very scientifical
