  • Impulse to build a new bike today so I've ordered

    Dolan frame
    Alpina integral headset
    Alpina CX carbon forks
    SRAM S300 crankset
    Alpina seat post
    Fizik Arione saddle
    Cinelli stem
    Cinelli bars

Should be good for winter riding, off road trails (HotN) and belgian cobbles next year :)

  • Pre cursa or FXE?

  • Pre cursa.. Pretty cheap

  • I can see the tread on them though.

hardly bloody kenda kinetics are they

  • So my xacd frame arrived:

  • So my xkcd frame arrived:

    #misreading things on the forum

  • Pre cursa.. Incredibly good value for money

    Ftfy, Al.

    ;-)

  • Thanks Jake ;-)

  • As much as it pains me admit, I think you're right :-( My regular road bike for a while now has been a Canyon 62cm, which suits me quite well (I'm 6.4). That frame is 58 c-c and the top tube is 58,5. The Look is 57.5 c-c and top tube 57.5, so I was thinking: saddle a bit higher and a slightly longer stem. I feel really good on the Look, but after while my knee starts to hurt ... next day I ride the Canyon - no problems with the knees :-(

The difference between the frames is small enough that you should be able to duplicate the position; the fact that you have problems suggests that you have failed to accurately do so. Get your measuring stick out and check everything.

I agree with tester, you should be able to duplicate your position. Key things to consider are.

    Saddle to bb drop
Saddle nose to bb horizontal offset.

Get those two things right then focus on getting the bar to saddle distances (again horizontal and vertical) the same. Easily done with a new stem and spacers.

All easily done with some straight edges and tape measures.

Also, if you're using a different pedal system then you need to account for different stack heights and cleat positioning.

  • Had same problem between two bikes, good advice above about saddle nose, use a plumb line, the seat tube angle can really throw it out. Also check crank length.

  • I've just been gifted this mavic ksyrium sr wheel set...

and this tokyo fixed road rocket f&f (columbus max and spirit + carbon fork)

So cue first road bike project and 'gateway drug to all forms of cycling' accolades.
Only slight problem is that the frame came with baggage - previous owner decided to insert 8in of aluminium seatpost without grease, which didn't work out too well - frame was labelled irretrievable and post was stuck.

AK47 at the bicycle ambulance worked his magic and out it came. Only problem being the damage to the OG sparkly paint job.

Need some paint to prevent rust, so with the white mavic hubs, thinking plain white all over respray with back parts. Haven't got a fucking clue when it comes to roadiness! But should be an education.

  • You got both free!?

  • yup - close friend works in the industry and has a rather large stable

  • Steel frame is incredibly light.

  • I would absolutely leave the frame as is (give some clear coat to protect a little) - the tarnish looks rad!

  • Bravo.gif. And do what tenderloin said. Looks rad.

  • Basking in the sunshine

  • Cheers gents. Not sure my OCD will cope with the defect but will do my best.

  • Makes mine look non-existent

  • this photo shows the clearance between the chain stays with a 23mm tyre on a 19mm rim (both actual as well as labeled measurements.

I want this to be a nice road bike with modern bits.
    now the dilemma:
I've been dreaming about a 25mm tyre setup on 23mm rims, but there's 19mm carbon rims on sale atm. I will not be able to afford new 23mm carbons.
do the clearances in the photo above warrant going 19mm rather than the tad wider for the sake of precaution? or is that just me trying to convince my self to buy sale rims? no archetypes for me btw...

edit: I tried putting a 30mm(27 on label) on a 25mm rim on, but it wouldn't fit.

  • “This suggests the viability of carbyne in condensed phase at room temperature on the order of days,” they conclude. Geek fail.

  • Cranks are for the Nature Boy sscx project, ordered the forks this week as well - still a fair bit to go there but having seen Cake's Talbot mid-week, I have some inspiration.
Bars are for the GT - so I can give actual track riding a go.

  • Very nice, sorry if I've missed it, but does the Nature Boy sscx project have its own thread?
