I just picked up a gitane track frame I "won" on ebay last week. Didn't really want it but it was cheapish.
Am I correct in thinking that I will be needing french threaded BB and some randon french size seat pin? Have I just entered a world of pain and frustration?

Is the HT smaller on the BMW than GASH?
Mainly because the fork is a massive 410mm long mean the headtube sit much higher.
That is until Indra put a carbon road fork on it.

I needed one for my Gitane, there's a website you can buy a french threaded bb for about £30, can't remember the name of the site, but its in my PM's somewhere if you need it.

This is it, if the link works. http://bit.ly/163K96Z
Will check everything when I get home before ordering anything. Maybe at lunch if I get a chance. If it proves too much hassle I might just sell it on.
will it be obvious if its french threaded?

Interesting frame....
Exotic track-ends and a kickstand bracket...... -
• #80259
Look like the latter was added much later.

mine has french bb and headset. it takes a 26.4mm seatpost. the main triangle is 531, but that should depend on the model i guess.
looking at the pictures that frameset does not look like any gitane i have seen before. i only know lugged frames and that drilled cheapish forkcrown and those trackends also seem unfamiliar to me.

I've got one for sale here:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread110696.html
If you put an English bb in, it might start a bit but won't engage. Then you'll know it's french.
The other headache you might get is 22.0mm rather than 22.2 mm stems. -

I would put the other pics in the gazelle topic.
"Gaston in two bikes with correct seatpost position shocker!"

Sure. If you're London based I can drop round with it at some point for you to try to check that the thread is correct.
-
• #80266
Thanks, not London based as such (at the end of the met line) but if none of the ones I have at home fit I will have that one off you. Will be in London on Saturday so could possibly meet you somewhere then.
Undecided on if ill even keep it. Anyone London based want it for what I paid? 67 quid, can bring it up on Saturday.

So I was cabling up the 'Roberts' today and this caught my attention:
which is a Rourke that was in the classifieds:
but the Roberts haz no wrapover (BR trademark) and Swiss bb. Is this just a generic BB shell - I've never seen one before. Any more Rourkes to confirm?
