I did the biro spring fix (successfully) on S500s. I use a normal crimped cable end cap though, so it would definitely have popped off if you'd been stupid / absent-minded enough to pull the lever with a bit of force.
I really disliked the levers though. Hollow, flexy, hoods too flat for my liking, and a socking great hole where the shift levers should be.

seriously.

quick pic of Bob on its commute, still undecided on the bar setup hence the lack of tape, the saddle needs to be further back and i've already maxed the rails and the seatpost has a slight setback already so I need to have a think.
Deda piega and some brake levers? then a quill stem which would look cleaner, should stretch you out more helping the saddle position maybe.

what bottle cage thing is that ?
Zefal bottle mounts + crabon cage.

Just if finished my build, will get better pics up.
I know the brake lever is stupidly on the stem, but was too small too fit on the bars, emergency brake only lol leg power ftw.

Surely attempting to use that brake in an emergency could only make the situation worse, not better?
-
• #78983
Yeah, but things would change, and change is good.

It actually works pretty well, but you have to sort of sideward grip the stem to lever it with your thumb! Could of brought another lever I know, I will eventually.

oh dear.

Who knew brake levers were so difficult?

You just put some tape round the top of the lever and the put the hood over the top like so.:
I taped my S900 like this, but with self-amalgamating silicone rubber tape. You can pull the lever back to the bars and it springs back into place. Also, no adhesive residue to clean off the lever when you remove the tape.

Just tape the levers. Chances are you're going to knock the bloody things and the spring will unattach or Apollo will just pull on them and then you'll just have to faff around with them again.
Rogan, that bike is so doing it right.

Euph.?

Well I ruined JB's tape and he appeared mildly disgruntled.

The cleanest way I've found to spring-load the SRAM levers is looping an elastic through the horizontal bar through which the brake cable would go, and then threading it out through the big hole on the top of the horn section and around the lever body. It's invisible with the hood on and it doesn't come apart if you pull on it too hard. I also added a bit of cotton to the edge of the hole to reduce wear on the elastic.

I can't see why anyone would fuck around with such shit levers and obscure mini-vs when you can get sprung drop-v levers that don't rattle and use normal v-brakes.

why would i run a quill stem? its threadless

Think most people are using them with calipers as well. I think your rage here is a bit misdirected. Find some other shit that people are fucking around with to get in a righteous fury about.
