  • The S500 levers are unsprung and so one of them rattles unless you wire up two brakes or do a Dammit.

  • We'll see,

its a shame that easton don't do compact EA50 bars and just ergos as the bars stem and seatpost all match up logos n all but the bars aren't the right shape

  • or this? http://www.lfgss.com/post3126683-18.html

doesn't really work on the s500's you would have to use the rubber band method, or just some electrical tape. Its what JB, Eamsey and myself do and that works fine.

Any link? could you explain more please?

  • You just put some tape round the top of the lever and the put the hood over the top like so.:

The tape is almost invisible, unless you look closely. I tried the spring thing and its very very fiddly and hard to get working on SRAM levers.

  • cheers spotter; will do that! Also this is the easiest method and i wont have to take the tape/levers out :) have some rep

  • why not just run some cable as you would normally but cut it short and put something on the end of the cable to stop it being pulled through... that way should you ever want to you could just pull the cable out and replace it with a full length one in order to use a rear brake.

  • Because you don't want a long length of outter cable on your bike which has no purpose?

  • it doesn't need to be long, just the length of the bar tape - use a joiner or an inline adjuster to join it to a longer piece of cable if you ever want to use it....

  • I guess you could do that, the only problem lies in when some idiot pull the dummy lever, and in doing so they yank off the cap from the end of the inner and then you have to untape your bars to get it back. If they do that with the tape its a 30 second fix.

  • You could run a length of outer that finishes under the tape, then use a cable-end to clamp a biro spring to the cable, keeping the lever under tension?

i.e. run a cable through the outer that is ~2cm longer than the outer when the lever is in the desired position, then slide a biro spring over the cable and use a cable end to secure it to said cable?

  • That way an idiot could pull the lever to their hearts content, no problemo.

Tried it, doesn't work if you tape over it, the cable wont return once its been pulled. You'd have to have it sticking out of the tape which is ugly.

    What's the dowery like?

Indeed - or I was thinking about a more substantial clamp than a crimped - something like this perhaps: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/solderless-barrell-nipple-8mm-dia-9mm-long-prod25956/

  • But as I said, the cable wont return. When the lever is pulled and the inner moves towards the outer, the tape shifts and the gap it was in is filled, then inner can't return. Trust me I spent a fair few hours playing with it.

  • Spotter you selling black s500's?

  • how much u want?

    They will work with mini-vs/cantis?

  • Can't see why they wouldn't work with canti's and JB used his with a mini v. PM me for price brother,

You fit it in the groove under the bar, so when you tape over it the spring has room to sproing.

  • xander has these on his nature boy, he actually suggested these to me

  • I know my method might look like a faff but having two working brake levers is really nice when you get used to it, even though they both only operate the one caliper.
