  • Why are imposing your painful angles on him?

  • I didn't, that how Brooks saddle are.

  • Done

just had a little blast round the heath and it's absolutely awesome, already know it's the best mountain bike I have ever ridden, exactly everything I wanted it to be. Ended up running 1x7, lol. Will change the front ring for 32t on payday

  • Ghetto stayguard. I have a spare neoprene and velcro one kicking around if you want and are willing to pay postage for it.

  • I'm glad Ed's back to uglifying bikes, I was getting worried for a while.

  • The before is really hot imo.

  • Better?

    Much.

    ;)

  • Is that an Alptitude? I was watching one on flea bay that I nearly went for. Also, what's with the backwards fork legs? Am I missing something?

  • I didn't, that how Brooks saddle are.

    I really don't understand that...
And I ride Brooks saddles on most of my bike, including a pro like this one.

  • Might be a little steep, but having the back of the saddle level with the nose a little higher is pretty standard.

  • Okay, fair play. Still ridiculous money.
If you're willing to pay they go up to Apolloxl size.

not apollo sized 58cm c-c is not even that big

^ This, also Scherrit adjust the saddle as well, and he (dad) found it comfortable.

It's not just a little in the case, it's a lot.

And why is it standard? I have seen this before, on some bikes, true, but I don't understand
What would be the benefit of it?

It hurts to look at it, and it's not what Sheldon said.

  • Arghh, in doubt, always do what looks better...

  • the rear of the saddle is perfectly levelled, had he adjusted the nose down, he'd be sliding forward constantly.

I guess it varies from person to person, as a normal saddle angle is either flat, or nose slightly up

Oh yeah this isn't the Team Pro, it's a B17 Special.

  • I sort of agree with Ed on this. Brooks can often be slippy and sometimes they do need to be angled up.

But you really need to switch all that brown to black.

  • If I desecrated my father's bikes in that fashion I think I'd get lynched....
What did he have to say about it?

  • But you really need to switch all that brown to black.

I agree, but they were a freebie from Brooks last year.

  • +1 ...it was very pretty before.

  • Fuck me, Ed, that's gruesome.

    This article? http://sheldonbrown.com/saddles.html#angle
He says close to level here, with some men preferring the nose slightly angled up. "Slightly" will be up to the individual.
I say it is standard based on most Brooks saddles that I've observed and owned, and what most promoters of Brooks saddles suggest. The benefit? Comfort, obviously.

  • So any of you other guys got an opinion on what you do like as opposed to what you don't ;)

If you had a few hundred quid spare, what frame would you look for?

In no particular order (but with the Condor being top of the list):

    • Condor Pista
    • Specialised Langster (obvs not for +£200 but if I wanted something cheaper)
    • Surly Steamroller
    • 2nd hand old fashioned steel track frame for £100-150 + 1" carbon forks
    • Nelson pista

I think the simplest starting place is whether you want something that; a) feels and looks "fast", b) is comfortable and practical, or c) is looks classic. Frames will cross over and vary between all of those, but I think once you know which box you fall into, it becomes easier.

There's also a massive thread that you can read:

track frames list from the list of lists

  • Oggling all city nature boys again, want a practical bike.

  • Now that's the ultimate question...
