  • Yeah, figured as much, just realised it's actually more like 56cm ctc effective but still too big a difference for us both.
Was thinking a shortish stem with VO tourist bars might possibly work - swept back for liz(she has long limbs for her height) but nearer the stem would be akin to risers for me. She has porteur bars with a long stem on her fixed mixte and I can ride it comfortably on the front of the bars when it's set up perfectly for her.

And Ewan, I know it should be a TT machine, but I really don't have the time to get into such madness at the moment, barely have time for leisurely rides, let alone caning around in the pain cave...

  • Main put off is how cold the garage is

    Do it in bed..

  • just got a headset in the mail. the lower cup is not really wide enough to cover the platform of the carbon fork crown designed for integrated h/s.
so bloody irritating. I was really hoping it would fit better.
oh, well both fork and h/s are pretty nice so I hope no one will notice when it's all build up. it's like 3 mm all around...

and a pic. could be worse I guess.

  • From the US is prob easiest (strangely). Fox got Hed. to build his set for him.

Delayed reaction, but HED UK is in Rotherham, it's much easier to buy them from there!

I got the hubs and rims from HED and bought the spokes separately and got them built up myself.

  • Baby blue looks good on the pomp.
    Prefer it to my white.

  • main put off is how cold the garage is

    htfu?

  • how about you come build it in my garage apollo, I'll sit and watch tv in the lounge

  • get Theo to do it for you... he accepts coin-op credits as payment

  • coin-op credits? that would be coins. yeah just pay the man.

  • paging theo

  • wut

cabling is brakes and gears, and brakes and gears are not areas where I have a clue what I'm doing

  • Built for £165 - which will go up when the loan period on my wheels and brake expires.

I have since corrected the mad saddle and bar angles - the geometry of the frame threw me off when the bike was in the stand.

  • Delayed reaction

Ah. I must have misremembered your thread.

How much do they sell the rims for direct?

  • got this coming to me..going to build it up as a geared streetfighter. i have a shimano 105 group to fit when it arrives.

I have not been able to find much out about Otero. anyone got any info?

  • wut

    Haha, rep for honesty!

  • Its ok i'm 90% of the way there, i just forgot to buy outer for my FD fml.

    Many thanks for your enquiry.
We do sell the Ardennes rims separately. We offer three different grades of Ardennes rims, the Scandium (used in the build of our FR and SL Ardennes front wheels (only suitable for front wheel builds)).
The Standard (used in the rear wheel of our FR and SL Ardennes as well as the rest of the Ardennes wheel range) and the "Belgium" which is a lower grade rim for aftermarket sale only (this rim doesn't feature in any of our Ardennes wheel builds)
Please find a price breakdown for each of the three grades of rim below:

ARDENNES Rims Hole Count Weight RRP
    Ardennes Scandium Rim 700c clincher 18 & 20 425g £199.00
    Ardennes Standard Rim 700c clincher 18, 20, 24 & 28 450g £149.00
    Ardennes "Belgium" Rim 700c clincher 18, 20, 24 & 28 460g £109.00

    HED UK

  • Now this- this is interesting, old news I know, but I've just been looking at them again:

  • ^^ Between that and the A23's for me. A23 have a more attractive price...

  • And the A23 is a tiny bit wider too, weight wise it's almost identical to the Scandium HED.

  • I've replaced the seatpost on my CX for a Easton EC90 seatpost and as I'll be replacing the stem (waaay too flexy) and bars (not so good for v.large hands), the idea was to replace with more Easton, but the shape of the EA90 bars didn't really appeal, and I don't really want carbon bars.

So far the bars I like are the Zipp Service Course SL (not sure on which drop shape yet, SS or TB), or the Ritchey WCS EvoCurve, are looking good.

So now I'm wondering to match the bar and stem(?), and if so would there be a winner between the Easton EA90, the Zipp Service Course SL, or Ritchey WCS C260 stems?

Or is there really nothing in it?

  • Stem/seatpost/bars from one manufacturer= looks much more cohesive.

  • It only noticeable if you have the same seat post and stem, different bar isn't a necessary, I got a salsa bar with 3T stem and seat post.

  • ^^ It does, but the only bars Easton do that I like the shape of are the EC90 slx bars, and I don't really want carbon, and they're kinda flexible from what I've read.

I was thinking of using the Easton EA90 stem and the Zipp "Beyond black" edition bars with the muted logos.

Was just wondering if there were any significant advantageous in choosing any one stem.

  • I think all manufactures will *say *that you should match the bars and stem as they're designed for each other. For eg (IIRC) Deda are slightly bigger than other brands.
