^^ I'm not bothered by that so much as which stem would be stiff enough for someone 18stone in weight and pretty strong to be yanking on it, as that's the whole reason it's being replaced!

Lol!
This is my geared every day bike, although I did look at the PRO Cavendish bars and stem, but then realised I was being silly.
Think it's gonna have to be the Easton stem and Zipp bars, unless someone has some tale of extreme pain and catastrophe because of them?! ;P

Then go cheap. Since most stems have roughly the same external dimensions, the heavier ones tend to be stiffer. Before she got her custom carbon bars*, Vic.P. used to use a really cheap and nasty stem.
*Somebody on FGF did actually get a quote from UKSI for these:

Well if they're all much the same, I'll get the EA90 stem that matches the seatpost (which is actually quite a bit cheaper).
This is just my everyday bike, but also my only bike atm, so I don't mind spending a bit on useful parts that are a step up from the original components and will make a noticeable difference to the ride, and therefore the enjoyment I get riding it, but I'm not gonna cover it in (anymore) bling.
But the stem has to go, I was checking it out when going up a hill out of the saddle and it was slightly disconcerting.

You'd think that such a strong sprinters' cockpit would be a bit beefier.
Mind you, for a sprinter, she is quite slight.

Cheap+heavy=stiff? maybe

The top of the line easton stem used to be a two bolt clamp. They claimed it was the best way to clamp your bars. Not as flimsy as it looks.
....and neither is she.

Sprint Bar £23,247.88You'd have thought they'd round the price up to £23,250 wouldn't you. Perhaps they thought that would be just too much..
-
• #71587
more likely they have a round NET price for it, as Gross is rarely of team's interest anyway
-
• #71588
you mean retail vs trade?
-
• #71589
neither price would be of interest for a sponsored team.
the price quoted is fictive to comply with UCI regulations that all equipment has to be publically available. -

I used to have that stem, was so hard to damage....

so pricing it so high is a loophole. why don't they just make them available at more sensible prices, like in other sports? This ain't a F1 steering wheel we're talking about guys...
-
• #71592
Because they don't want other teams to be able to afford them.

In relative terms of technology within the industry it probably is.

BLUE HERCULES
This is really cool, I love it!!!
Bravo!
Actually, Deda's nominal size is slightly smaller, because they insist on calling it 31.7 when everybody else says 31.8. The actual dimension is 31.75mm, i.e. 1¼", for either "31.7" or "31.8" bars and stems, and nobody makes them to such fine tolerance that you could tell whether they meant 31.6 or 31.9. Although Deda have now gone out on their own limb with 35mm bars and stems, so their Trentacinque stuff really is bigger than everybody else's.
