Stuff ready for my Surly, hard to believe this all cost like 90 quid
Later in the day, surly is done, for now anyway.
even later in the day, ready to commute
next month/payday i think i will get some full mudguards, new saddle, shorter stem and black lock on grips, maybe a front brake but i don't really want one

Realistically, how much dorrah is required to put together a reasonably decent CX bike that's also suitable for winter commuting? (The commuting bit may be a bit of a non question as I imagine any CX bike is fine for winter commuting - bar tubular tyres anyway)
£500, £1000,£1500? -

depend on your choice of gearing and brake I reckon.
budget gearing with a single chainring up front and mini v-brake would be a good way of keeping it cheap, so I reckon £500 is possible (with second hand part and what have you).

Cool - how much difference does it make? Running a single up front seems reasonable to me.
I'm pretty clueless about the price of road/geared bikes.

New bottle cages and Fulcrums 5's - did some blacking out on it.
Next up A23 wheelset, 3T seatpost and token/PXcollar, new slr and some ergonova's

Difference in performance, cost, maintenance?
a 1x8 (or 9) with an MTB derailleur/cassette (11-32) would give you a reasonable amount of range, you shouldn't worry about chain falling off the chainring unless it got those ramp on it to aid gear shifting.
it mean the bike will be slightly lighter, also with a second hand Shimano brifter (I hate those term), it give you an option to get a double up front in the near future should you choose to upgrade.

Looks nice but I really want some gears.

Get some SPDs or any proper road pedals, tenderloin. Will make the ride so much better than on atacs.

I'm perfectly happy with Atacs - did 350 miles in 48 hours a few weeks back, and was fine.

Looks super nice!
Is the desire for steel a silly idea?

Tenderloin, what bars are they? They look exactly like what I want.

Great going that, 350 miles in 2 days is impressive stuff.

Compared to your recent haul, its minor!
Cheers though, raised a 12.5k for Scope which was the main thing! :)

c'mon don't sell yourself short, 65 miles a day is a normal distance for a touring cyclist, and you know it.

How? off road commute?

I ride over cars. The cranks are just cheap fsa vero ones with a chainguard but they work a treat

They do but it doesnt make a huge difference
I might put risers back on the leader, get it back to its original mode for winter riding
