top tip with the brooks tape! i like!
as for me pre l'eroica preps mean i need stiffer soles in my vintage touring shoes so took them to the cobbler and for £40 he put on somesuper stiff new leather soles over the top of the old ones - means they are pretty heavy now compared but as stiff as my modern carbon shoes! not a bit of flex
also upgraded my gipiemme sprints to some long lusted after zeus titanium pedals which are noticably lighter (but i have no scales sadly)
very exciting

Oh, the ultimate honour. How about if I'd called you 'erotic rabbit' instead?

not a chance of them slipping - the guides are tight (although not as tight as the gipiemmes)

This maybe a stupid question, but i'm just curious, is there's any performance difference over small flange or large flange hubs?
-
• #67212
In the old days the general thinking was:
L/F = shorter spokes & greater spoke angles hence a stronger wheel
S/F = less hub hence a lighter wheel
L/F for track, touring and training
S/F for racing! -

Quick question that I can;t find answered elsewhere, (tho I fear it's due to it being a bit of a silly idea).So...
In a potentially foolish endeavour to make my touring bike look reasonably non-touringy when it's not loaded up, is it possible to (instruct my frame builder when it gets made) to put the front and back double eyes for the mudguards and panniers on the inside of the chainstay/fork?
Am I asking for trouble/wierd look from the framebuilder?

@Tilover .. twist the straps as they go through the pedal to stop them slipping around please ..
ahh, that's what the twist was for...
When I put straps on my Zeus pedals recently I went to twist, but because the Bindas are so blinking thick I couldn't fit a twist in!
I was trying to remember why we always used to twist our Christophe Nylon straps on our pre-spd mountainbikes and thought it was to prevent the pedal clogging with mud!
Agreed with tilover that the openings on Zeus are so small the straps are going nowhere!
The cages on my Zeus's were trimmed off and hand filed to look like track pedals by a previous owner. Apparently this was a common mod for crit racers and weight weenies back in the day. -

Ricky Feather did something a bit like that:

The mudguard fittings are on the inside of the fork blades and seatstays.

I'd ask the frame builder. I'm having trouble imagining how double eyelets could be hidden.
-
• #67217
It'll be on an alfine hub (to the rear) so not sure if that complicates things or makes them easier. If you put the eyelets 2 inches up the frame it looks as if it'll fit fine tho not sure if that'll be ideal. Will speak to the guy building it (who I fear will default to 'no').

All-city have hidden guard eyes on their Nature Boy frame. Could you have threaded drillings to you dropouts maybe?

The new Rixon is very nearly finished, ordered the wrong size seatpost so hopefully I'll get it right tomorrow, very excited for a silly bike. It's 753 and stupidly light, which I've slightly negated by putting heavy hhsb stuff on it, but it's fun (oscc)

What's the chainset on the new one? I like it.

Oh yeah it probably is. The red crank bolt covers were making it look more special.

My new cyclocross/commuter bike went together on the weekend.
Need to sort out saddle seatpost and yes I know slack chain. ( im going to put a slightly larger freewheel on it)
Also i think i need some professional help with the cantilevers
And the pedals will be changing soon
