  • crap. not seen 24" forks come up for sale in quite a while, let alone a front wheel.......going to make it a lot harder to finish.

  • Finally I've found a set of drops I really get on with... its only the 5th pair I've tried!

Ergonova Pros in 46cm wide, and they are so comfortable, loving the flattened top bar, but its the drops that really get me.

Even though they have about 10mm more drop then 3T say, I can get down into the drops easily and find it comfortable even for extended periods, like today to get out of the wind, which is perfect.

Although the ability to get lower into the drops might not all be down to the bars, have lost some weight due to more riding, so not kneeing myself in the gut anymore, which is great! :D

Really pleased with this setup, so have been able to finally chop the steerer to size.

    Those bars ain't cheap!

  • Repped just for this bit. It's the answer to most things!

:D Amazing how quickly you start to get your fitness back when you're riding regularly, actually enjoying 4hr rides and not dead by the end of it now, which is a drastic improvement.

another current project to add to the list......but trying to figure out if it would take 24" or 26"/650 forks.

Might be worth looking into having a set made for it?
Dunno what the prices are like for custom fork, but can't be astronomical.

Got em for £52 from Winstanleys, vastly superior to anything I've tried before, so worth every penny in my books.

    .

i have a feeling it would be cheaper to buy a frame with forks than get them custom made? i may contact Langdale though, just to see.....

  • Fuck, sometimes something comes up that you can't say no to, but probably should have. I am well aware I paid way over the odds for it but I couldn't say no...so now rixon has a silly brother.

It's going to be a slow build, certainly now looking at the way my bank balance is after that, but this should be fun

  • Awesome buy!

    Totally had to be done.

Also check with London frame builders like Oak Cycles.

  • i saw a mecacycle turbo in a bike shop, i think its endcastle st. W1. cant remember exact name of shop or road.......im not being much help. i know its 60cm seat tube and £220.......yesterday.

    Fitzrovia on cavendish st.......i think.

I might have a wonder over and have a look

  • swapping parts

  • I want a salve bike. Trying to think what to get/what I want.

    Dolan?

  • finished my new bike this week, bought frame set from forum member Ruud, needs bartape.. but here it is...

  • That looks alright that does.
    Whats the frame?
Only things need changing is, as you say, bartape, and maybe cranks, but if you're happy with those, why bother.

i can't remember what the frame is, i think it was unknown but had toxteth stickers on when the previous owner bought it, i was thinking i may just buy a silver chainring

  • Actually the black chainring ties it in quite well with the black stem and seatpost I thought.

I suppose it was more me being snobbish about some perfectly fine cranks! ;P

    Are those 130bcd?

If so, I think it was Tester who suggested a USE 130bcd ring thats ultra stiff and he reckoned was the way to go for a really stiff for good transfer of power with 130bcd cranks, although that does depend on crank and BB stiffness too.

  • they are 130bcd - they're driveline ones, like 40 quid off ebay or from charliethebikemonger

  • Really look good, but £110!

  • Will would go quicker by wearing out that existing chainring and spending some of that £110 on a brake.

    :0

  • Really look good

    Highly debatable.

  • The black one is porn, the others can gtfo.

  • I've made a huge mistake...

Before I went away for the summer and left my road bike at my parents', I fitted new bars. I wanted Campione del Mondos (Cinelli 66) but found a nice pair of Giro D'Italias in my size (Cinelli 64) and fitted them instead. Before I taped everything up, I went for a ride around, and decided it was alright, and then added gel pads, cloth tape etc.

Having been on two 20-mile rides now, I've realised it's really not alright, the bars are the wrong shape to take modern hoods and it's just not comfortable. The 66 bars seem to have a flatter transition and look like they'd be a lot better with STIs and hoods.

    Here it is:

I have some nice 66 bars, but they're 44s and are a bit too wide for my slender womanly shoulders. Should I put them on anyway, or look for some 42s?

Gratuitous shot of the bike, it's taken another step closer to full 600 Ultegra with a new seatpost, replacing the 600ax I had before. Rides nicely apart from the bars, but there are more problems I'm going to have to deal with at some point - looks like one of my chainrings is bent, sounds like the BB is on its way out.

  • The notionally "correct" placing for the levers would be with the tip of the brake lever resting on an imaginary line taken from the flat of the drop, if any of that makes sense?

i.e. you need to move them up, which might sort out the transition a bit?

I'd bring them up at least an inch, then go from there.

  • If you put Spotter bars on there I will find your house and shit through the letter box.

  • Tried that before, the shape of the bars means by the time you've got them to align, they're at such a jaunty angle they're barely usable.

No spotter bars coming near this, I'd rather have proper ergo bars to be honest. Like the ones I used to have and shouldn't have changed out.

  • Maybe have a look through the 'retro' section on the Planet X site. They've got a lot of NOS 3ttt bars in all sorts of shapes and sizes and all cheap.

    I don't trust 2nd hand handlebars.

  • I've only ever used second hand bars, eek...

Did a little search on Ebay after writing that and found some 42cm Campiones with 5 minutes to go, got them for a tenner. Hopefully they'll do the job.

I like the bend a lot better than the Giros too, there's more room for hands on the drops too. Fuck having to wrap them all again though.
