  • That's just nuts.

  • Can you get a 14t freewheel for normal hubs?

It's a freehub hub and a cassette cog innit.

  • I bought this CAAD7 a while ago and have been slowly acquiring parts for a build, including a full SRAM Red groupset.

Now the only thing missing is a wheelset but I can't decide on one, so any recommendations for a pretty general (not ridiculously aero, not ridiculously light, not ridiculously expensive, etc.) set? I was initially thinking of some S60s but it was probably just for their æsthetics; I'm not sure I need such flashy wheels, and of course they're extremely costly.

  • Had some fun with the parts bin today:

Might finish it off next week, as I actually quite like it.

full red on a caad7 is one spoiled frame :D

  • The decals on that are well OTT.

  • 1" threadless carbon forks and something like a Campag Veloce Group.

+1 that would look great with a set of Minimals and Veloce, pretty much what I've got on my Roberts!

The 13t & 14t BMX freewheel hubs use a smaller thread- I am pretty sure about this

  • is the washer between the lock nut and upper race on a headset essential? theres plenty of answers to this question on the internet but id like someone to say YES/NO from experience

  • How much am I going to regret it if I decide to buy bright blue tyres because they are 15 each instead of 25 each for black?

The blue will match my bike, but I would usually only get black, and find coloured tyres kind of gross. Should I just stop caring too much about aesthetics anyway?

The colour is kind of lurid. Maybe it'll even look cool though? Thoughts?

  • do they have the grey ones? i bought those and found them not too offensive

Depends on the style of nut you have. Some nuts aren't open on both sides to will stop at the end of the steerer. You might need the spacer there to stop the nut from bottoming out. Otherwise, no.

  • the second one

sigh. i need a bigger place

  • ^^^ That top one isn't the grey tyre, it's the sky blue one.

I think it's the older one. They seem to have revamped the colours when they introduced all the new colours. It used to be black, grey (as second pic) and a blue that was pretty tame and near to grey. Could just be the colour balance of that pic making it look like that one though.

Like it (as long as you get rid of that horrid stem).
The yellow forks are very sweet, so are the bluemels populars or whatever those mudguards are

  • Sold the RIH to a local dude just before leaving Berlin, and this:

arrived by courier at the door the very next hour. Nothing too fancy, but a early 00s Pinarello Cadore in wonderously fitting 63.5 cm CTC ST with a suitably short 59.5 CTC TT, almost perfect paint, and good condition, complete 9 speed 105 group with what I think must be destickered DP18s (and a very nice ti Flite to boot).

Don't quite know how much to do with it, but since I had just recently gotten into fixed riding on the RIH, my first impulse was to strip the gears. Must have patience in any case: it's currently underway/sitting in customs as I have just moved back to Norway for a year.

The only sure thing is that I need to reduce the reach. I quite like the current saddle-to-bars-drop, but with long legs and short torso (one of those, yes), I was uncomfortably stretched out with the current setup.

Anyone to recommend a nice stem (about 90 cm extension, I should think) and bars (some short-reach ones) for this to get the hoods real close, while still having a fair drop to the drops? And, provided I loose the gears (and sell the group), any ideas for a crank? I'm leaning towards a road crank, as I already have a nice TA track ring in 130. Wheels?

    Sky blue:

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna pull the trigger on the grey ones and hope you're right and they're not those horrible light ones.

  • 5 minutes of riding and they'll be dark grey anyway.

that's on the way to being a very funky rat bike, do it!

  • Anyone to recommend ... [some] ...bars (some short-reach ones) for this to get the hoods real close, while still having a fair drop to the drops?

    I have a feeling I could...

  • Don't bother, they'll never catch on ;)

  • It's not "a bit" heavy, it's "oh god, I have to climb that hill on clerkenwell road?" heavy.

    Get a 20t cog.

Yeah I went out and tested a 18t just now, I think thats perfect.

And yeah it is just SS, not fixed. So i have a normal shimano freewheel cassette hub wich I put a ss-kit on.
Its been a really funny learning experience. I polished all the aluminium and metal parts, I changed the bottombracket and cleaned and regreased the headset, new cables and wires etc. I was gonna remove the stickers on the rims, but I think they go well with the red and black frame.
