Fair point. I'll take a look at it this weekend, having also just skimmed this Park Tools write up:

Vesalius, do you really need that large lock? if you're going touring/audaxing, I wouldn't even bother with one*.
If necessary, a small cable lock would sufficient to stop pass byer from taking the bike out for a joyride.
*providing it's not London or any major city in the UK.

I was just about to say the same as Ed
(can't believe I just said that)
Unnecessary weight on a long ride, surely.

I still cant bring myself to ride the BMC if loooks like rain :/
So you get what, 1-2 days a year use out of it in Norway!?
-
• #65106
Yeah I was certainly weighing it up myself, I won't be spending much time away from the bike and the reduced weight would certainly be welcome.
I probably will take It off tbh, and use 2 cable locks (hold the brooks/wheels/frame.
equally I don't need that large a saddle bag either, but it's the only one I have large enough to hold my waterproofs/tools/food etc
If the weather is good I may even go without the waterproofs then I can use a much smaller saddlepack I have

I will be stopping at certain places and I will want to use the toilet as well, it only takes 10 secs to chop a cable lock, even a "decent" one,
but yeah I do agree the reduced weight would certainly be welcome, and I won't be locking up for very long -

I get a lot of use out it, as I prioritise road riding over all else if the weather is dry.
Means I do all my other out door hobbys in th rain though. I think my runningshoes are going to rust.

That would stop anyone wheeling it off, so might discourage thieves even if you're using cable locks...

The photo is still there on my comp but yeah thanks that's really good advice, I may just take one cable lock now.

Can never understand why people would want to sell a custom bicycle.
As nice as the Rivendell are (and they're very nice), they may not have the same sense of appeal as a custom Robin Mather.
Well, it's a lot of money to be just sitting in the shed :-) Plus, after receiving the frame from Robin, I soon wished I'd gone for a slightly larger frame (+2 or 3cm). It's a nice ride, but not as versatile as I'd like these days.

In London, I quite agree.
But in the countryside/town, I wouldn't really worry too much about it, bicycle thieves aren't as tooled up and professional as the London one.

Stu F, that is a very tasty job mate.

Cheers. The colours are a bit off in that photo because of the red light on the front of my camera. I'll take some better ones once it's fully built in full sunshine

This one shows the fading a bit better:

I reckon it looks a bit more classy/subtle than the one it was based on actually:

Huge changes with my road bike: a second bottle cage. I'll get it booked in for a professional shoot as soon as I can.

^ on that note, I removed the valve caps from my beater to shed some weight. Photo soon.

I've just wrapped the bars on the rat bike with with an old inner tube. Everyone should do this, it's grippy and comfortable!
-
• #65120
Not so light though.
-
• #65121
Cut the innertube and unfold it, makes it thinner and so lighter.

My tourer/audax/road bike in it's audax guise ready for a 200km on saturday
I also changed the stem from a 110mm reach to an 80mm reach as I had some neck pain after a 60mile ride recently, so I'm trialling a more relaxed upright riding position
A lock that big is superfluous. Outside london no one steals bikes. A wee cable is sufficient, and even if you are in a risky spot a Mini D would be much more weight efficient.

Which fluffy little world are you living in?
So true. Maybe something will happen that allows me to go home early ;)
