  • ah ok, i should be able to get something like that without and trouble!

  • ^^^ they're not a SRAM copy but the old R100/R200 Tektro. Cane Creek now use that shape (and have upped the price).

    They're quite similar to Campag.

Not to be confused with the Tektro R340. They're a different shape again.

    This is correct.

The old Tektro ones were Campag copies IIRC, hence the quick release button. The R340 are too chunky for me but they're very solidly made and cheap.

The Tektro R100 / Condor ones are the Cane Creek SCR-5 (with a different texture on the hoods).

  • love the new riding position - i found i could ride with my big bag without it slipping over my shoulders due to it being more upright and the hand positions feel good too

anyone recommend a decent tape to tidy up at the stem end? the fabric stuff is crap - would be nice to get something brown or tan or shall i just glue it?

  • Maybe get some fabric glue?

But have to see that looks brilliant mate, and although I'm getting a CX next, I'd love something like yours.

It just likes ace for chilled out, sunny sunday afternoon, gentlemanly riding!

Bet thats awesome for touring and any sort of long distance riding.

Think I might try and do one as a budget project...could even possibly be tempted to get a Brooks if I can on the cheap! shock horror

Looks top that does, wasn't convinced when you first decided to rip the drops off but it was definitely a good idea.

What about just plain old white electrical tape at the end? Then you can overlay it with something nicer looking, like 1 roll of fabric tape, so it looks a bit tidier.

  • hello, im just about to start my first build. does anyone know what bb lenght to get for a sugino messenger crankset?

  • Have a look at the Transmission Database

  • thanks for that looks like its 103mm, this will be for a SS though, will that make a difference, the list looks like all fixed gear to me.

  • no, same thing.

  • SS and fixed are the same.

  • The Mercian looks fantastic Tilover.

Hemp twine to finish the tape looks nice...

  • okay, i thought a the centreline of a ss sproket might sit in a different place to a fixed cog.

  • I guess that would depend if you were running a freewheel or a SS conversion on a geared freehub. But if the latter, you could adjust the chainline with spacers anyway, I would have though.

  • As most SS adapter kits for bikes with a cassette come with different spacers, you can put the sprocket anywhere on the freehub body to align with the chainring.

  • Beaten to it. :P

  • and if you do that, make sure you go full rasta

  • thinking about a new matching wheelset for the nago.

option 1) dura ace 7600 hubs with 50mm tubular carbon rims

option 2) dura ace 7600 hubs with tubular mavic rims

i always thought the alu frame needs deep carbon rims, but after potatoshopping option 2 i prefer it.

  • Mavic's fo sho.

    Can't beat a good Shamal...

  • The Mercian looks fantastic Tilover.

Hemp twine to finish the tape looks nice...

i did this before but it was a pain and it came undone pretty quick - guessing i did it wrong - tips on what glue to use?

  • Shellac

  • option 2) dura ace 7600 hubs with tubular mavic rims

i always thought the alu frame needs deep carbon rims, but after potatoshopping option 2 i prefer it.

I really think oversized alu frames look really good with absolutely minimal rims as a rule, and minimal frames with oversized rims!

  • I favour Shimano R600 (and Dura-Ace 7402 on the fancy bike) but then I don't have the biggest hands, and I prefer the smaller shape.

I think it's best to mentioned that I find the R400 to be rather flexy which from the sound of your experience, the R600 is a much better quality levers.

  • nope, infinitely less awkward than the traditional drop bar, on a traditional dropbar you can't actually brake from the hoods easily or from the drops with comfort!

i'm only talking about vintage style with skinny gummy hoods

That is very true, i just thought you have to bend your wrist in an awkward position to pull the lever

    they look great though!

  • ^^ I haven't used the R400 but the grey plastic bit around the lever is so ugly I wouldn't even consider them on anything other than a beater. :)

The R600 are solid, yeah. Way more solid than the SRAMs. 7402s, a bit more again, grippier hoods and with a stronger return spring. Although the fancy finish on them can a bit slippy when used from the hoods.

  • I guess that would depend if you were running a freewheel or a SS conversion on a geared freehub. But if the latter, you could adjust the chainline with spacers anyway, I would have though.

I've got some cheapo quando flipflop wheels
