that 4th one just isn't comfortable...
Only if you have a dummy hood on that position;

The colours a bit mental but good on you for getting something built. Should really keep the Chimmy too. You'll miss it when it's gone!

Wanted something that was a bit lairy, think i've probably managed to acheive that. Would love to keep the chimp but i just can't warrant the cost for driving it into work and back every day...it doesn't get used other than that. Will defo have another at some point though.
Can you make any recommendations on locks ? I haven't got anything at the moment and don't want to come back to find it gone. That and do you think these would do the trick just for cimply being able to be seen ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FROG-STROBE-BIKE-2-LED-LIGHTS-FRONT-AND-REAR-SET-KNOG-CYCLE-BICYCLE-MTB-/110834850140?pt=UK_SportsLeisure_Cycling_Bike_Lights&hash=item19ce45995c
Want something really really minimal.

If you want knogs preferably nothing less than a gecko I would say. I ron a boomer and beetle combo both front and back.
Also, try here for good locks: http://www.lfgss.com/thread17938.html

What drop bar brake levers are recommended?
Can't find a thread.

i'm a big fan of sram s500 levers
or if you are pimping, the s900 carbon version OR super record are awesome.
others to look at are tektro and cane creek - i find the shimano ones too slim to get a good grip on

Tektro look naff, seem to have cheap plastic hoods.
The s900 look sweet, but the price is too much for an winter bike.s500 it is.

So, assuming that i find some way of getting the crank off at some point, can anyone make any recommendations on what to replace it with ? I'm actually quite enjoying riding it on the 50T on the front and 16T on the back at the moment so dont' really want anything much different to that. The place i got my rims from (espresso) also do cranks, at a reasonable price, so is it the case that any will do or is it worth splashing out and getting something decent ?
You'll have to excuse my total lack of knowledge, i literally have no idea what i'm doing. Bear with, i'm a quick learner.

No, I find them flexy and uncomfortable, and the socking great hole underneath where they've left the shift mechanism out is particularly unpleasant.
I favour Shimano R600 (and Dura-Ace 7402 on the fancy bike) but then I don't have the biggest hands, and I prefer the smaller shape.
The SRAMs also don't have return springs so you'll have to resolve that if you're running fixed with no rear brake.

^I was going to post the same thing basically.
They're probably super heavy or something but they're very comfortable for me and nice and cheap without looking it.

• #64967
rebranded tektro no?
-
• #64968
^^^ they're not a SRAM copy but the old R100/R200 Tektro. Cane Creek now use that shape (and have upped the price).
They're quite similar to Campag.

Not to be confused with the Tektro R340. They're a different shape again.

I've been reading up more on shift cable and seen that some people who use the shimano brifters (like mine) that have the shift cables coming out the inside, side of the lever, still route the cable down their handlebars, having a small loop out the shifter and then into the bartape with the brake cables,
is this advisable? it looks alot nicer IMO but i also won't be able to cross the cables over on the down tube which seems to also be advised..
-
• #64971
Might cause unwanted friction. I have 105 5600 shifters with the side exit. I have them so that they cross quite nicely and uniformly. Not really an issue to be honest.
-
• #64972
Not sure which models i have, do you mean they cross over and then again back over on the downtube? Dont think i can do this because of me having to get some clamp on down tube cable stops
-
• #64973
Don't do it, it'll have a strong negative impact on the shifting performance.

^^ 2nd that .. you need to get as smooth and friction free cable run as possible with Shimano
So guys, as promised ... Wish i could justify the cost of keeping the TVR but it's a bit of a drain on money !! To be honest i'm enjoying riding this round london more than i did sitting in traffic watching the petrol guage go down in the TVR anyway !!
