  • So has any one here used a 3 speed hub? or any type of geared hub, i spent the last hour trying to find out about them, but all i can find is pages of boring info but no reviews by people who actually used them.

I run a 3 speed fixed hub. Partly because I'd be walking round where I live if I didn't, and partly because it is fun.

As other post suggested, it can be tricky to get the selection dialled even with the latest hub. (SA S3X) and it is heavy.

Great for taking it easy when you want to cruise and then dropping a cog when a challenger appears. Besides, dragsters are temperamental. ;o$

Tilover also runs one, I think.

  • ^^^ screenshot for future reference

  • Lovely relaxing angles on that Raleigh. Clocked that on ebay - could be awesome built up, look forward to seeing it.

  • tom if you want we could swap rings, mine is the same but 50. - I wanted to try gearing up a little.

I won't be able to before I leave I don't think. Come to Berlin, bring it with you and we'll have a Berliner Pilsner and chainring exchange.

  • Havent had a new project for a while, but looking forward to this...

Havent got it yet, should get my mitts on it 7th July when back in the UK. In two minds on how to build it... i say two but really i have just had all and everything going thru my head! enjoying speculating what wheels are gonna be on it. feel like i've just asked a chick out on a first date and waiting for the day to arrive!

You! You! I was bidding on this too... You best show pics of the build, thats a daft nice frame with a great history.

Build with C-record hubs... there is a front 650 kicking about on here somewhere...

  • :) from ear to ear bro!

will be starting a thread for it soon and would appreciate thoughts and opinions on build.

Got a feeling it might be a slow process to the final build of choice although i am sure it will get other parts on it in the meantime nto give it some use.

  • I'd say build it how it was ridden in the games, it deserves it... no older than C-Record either... I think?
Defo box section wheels... hit up Campyoldy if you are buying NOS.
    Please start a thread ASAP.
If I had one more invoice cleared I prob would of ended up putting a stupid bid down...

  • Seller spec'd it as follows:

super record seatpost & Cinelli Unicanitor saddle
Cinelli 65 bar and stem combo
I got the original edco competition headset too.
Super record titanium BB & Pista chainset
    Super record track pedals
Whelset was 28h Mavic CX18 laced to campy hubs.

  • There's your shopping list!
    Any other info on it?

I would love a 3 speed fixed hub but they are not cheap!

basically i want to set my self up with 2 commuters, one every day fixed, nice n simple, but then i need something for when i need to carry a bit more than usual, or just cruise along without a bag

so i was thinking about sticking a 3 speed hub in a Pompino with a basket and panniers on it, still keeping it simple with just 3 gears but i can still change down and get up those hills when i'm carrying a lot of weight.

  • not yet. he said it wasnt used since the '86 games so should look better in real life than in the pics... I should have some original build pics on way so will include them in the thread although it could mean my final result will be a let down! fuck it, i dont care. its going to be fun :)

  • Lets see the pics of the original build!

  • havent got them yet! all in good time sir. all in good time!

  • Totes jelly.

  • I need a little advice, I'm currently building up a Pompetamine and need the wheels building. The only 'Offered: wheel building' threads seem age old. So can anybody suggest a skilled someone/somewhere that can build my wheels for a reasonable price.

I'm based in east london, I have all the hubs/rims/spokes just need the skills.

That is an awesome spec, only thing I might change is the rims to Campy Omegas like you said, other than that... perfect!
Would love to perv over that in person when its finished, it's gonna look incredible! ;)

  • ^^Contact Richard.

Do it yourself.. its pretty simple... jut common sense.

  • ^^^^ Varno and Arup are pretty good wheel builders too and won't break the bank either.

Arup even does classes on wheel building, I'm going to one on sunday.

  • Thinking about a pair of these for my Planet X and been offered some for £250, however I'm undecided... Is this good value? Also slightly concerned with how they would cope with my 89kg self. Any ideas?

Arup built me a set of A23 commuter wheels a few weeks ago. Very happy.

  • ^^ £250?!! For that I'd take the risk, if they do break, its not you paid a fortune for em!

I'd email the manufacturers and ask mate.

  • YES. this i like, lots.

  • ^Can we just block any other posts apart from the build of this on this thread for a while?

  • Finished off my parts bin beater today. Complete with custom front rack, welded with my own fair hands. Made from 12mm rebar and scrap 3mm plate lying about in my dads garage. Weighs a ton .
